SHADOW OF THE BEAR NATURAL PHENOMENON NEAR CASHIERS – Daily, Mid Oct through Nov 5:30pm-6:00pm(ish) – Coming out of hibernation each Autumn, “The Shadow of the Bear” is visible for 30 minutes on sunny days between 5:30pm and 6:00pm from mid-October through early November due to the setting of the autumnal sun behind the mountain. The best viewing spot for the shadow is right off Highway 64 in a place called Rhodes Big View Overlook, atop Whiteside Mountain. It starts with a small dark shadow at the bottom of the valley, and grows until it finally evolves into the bear. The Shadow of the Bear also occurs in late winter from mid-February through early March. LEARN MORE HERE
