VACATION BIBLE SCHOOLS!

If you’re looking for a spiritual option to summer camp, there are a LOT of churches in our area hosting Vacation Bible Schools, this summer! Not all churches have announced their schedule, so our calendar isn’t complete just yet, but it’s filling up fast. The majority of them are FREE (but, donations are gladly accepted)!

Family Friendly Asheville has been gifted 3 days of Summer Camp (each!), to give away to 2 LUCKY winners, at Playball Asheville! “Playball camp is where kids go to have a BALL! Each half-day is loaded with high energy games and teamwork activities derived from 8 major sports. Coaches introduce the children to a wide variety of movement and skills in 3 main areas; locomotion, stability, and manipulation of equipment. They gain physical, social, and emotional strengths through positive coaching in an encouraging environment. We exercise our right brains as well by doing a sporty craft each day. Nature and music are also important components of our day. There is a playground, classrooms, indoor recreation hall, full kitchen, grassy play ball space, and blacktop to practice all of those sporty skills.”

Playball Asheville Camp is a Co-Ed program for boys and girls aged 3-6 years, held this year at Oakley United Methodist Church in Fairview. Camp will be held half days (9am-1pm) Daily/Weekly, Monday through Friday, June 24 though August 16th, and the winner can choose the days/weeks they attend, and can choose to use the days one at a time, or consecutively.

*Important* Parking Changes for the 2019 Season:

Beginning this season, the City of Asheville has implemented a new parking plan for all events at Memorial Stadium and McCormick Field. This plan consists of significant changes from past seasons. Please make note of these changes and plan accordingly as you make your way to the stadium.

THE BEST TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS FOR ACSC GAMES ARE:
1) Utilize ride sharing services like Uber and Lyft. Drop-off/pick-up location at McCormick Place is labeled on map below.
2) Utilize downtown parking garages. The nearest garage is adjacent to the Aloft Hotel on Biltmore Avenue and is an easy walk to the stadium. The city’s parking app can be utilized for realtime parking information.

*No parking will be allowed in the Mountainside Park area north of the stadium. In addition, there will be no access to this area via Edgehill Ave. There will be staff in place at Edgehill Ave preventing event traffic access.

*Parking in the Stadium Lot and McCormick Lot is very limited. Handicap parking is available nearest the stadium entrance. Please show your hangtags to staff at Buchanan Place for access. Parking in the grass area at Buchanan Place has been significantly reduced.

*No event parking will be allowed in the neighborhoods surrounding the stadium. Staff will be in place at each of the red indicators shown below preventing any event access beyond the points indicated.

SPRING BREAK DAY CAMPS – 2019

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!

Asheville area parents! This guide to spring break camps is a WORKING LIST, and is NOT complete. We felt is was important to release as soon as possible since some camps released their schedules early, with discounts that you can only take advantage of before a set deadline. Other camps have not released their dates yet, and will announce their schedules in the coming weeks. If you see a “NOT ANNOUNCED YET” next to “2019 DATES”, the information you see is from their 2018 season, and will be updated to 2019 as soon as they make an announcement with that information. Keep that in mind, and use this guide as a guide for what’s POSSIBLE as an option for your child, this spring. We will continuously keep updating this list, so keep checking back!

SPRING BREAK CAMPS 2019

ABYSA’s FUNdamental Soccer Camp offers a games-centered teaching approach to soccer education, creating an exciting and entertaining environment designed to boost player learning. The FUNdamentals teaching method is designed to enrich players’ passion for soccer while teaching them the proper techniques for future soccer success. Campers will be placed in proper age groups and skill levels to ensure all players benefit from developmentally appropriate activities, teaching, and competition. The camp will employ games designed to build technical foundations for dribbling, passing, receiving, shielding, and shooting. Older age groups (11-14 year olds) will also be exposed to individual and small group tactical implications of the game.

At the Kolo Spring Break Mountain Bike Camp, campers will ride on purpose-built mountain bike trails and skill elements designed for all levels of rider to experience flow on a bicycle. Kolo Bike Park is a great way for young riders to build confidence and skill in a controlled environment. Indoor activities such as bicycle movies and games on bad weather days. The camp is for kids age 8-15 years who can comfortably ride a two-wheel bicycle. Some off-road experience is recommended but not required.

Spring Break RPG camp! Kids 9 and older are invited to spend the day on a 2 acre family homestead “Adventuring” via the Roleplaying Game (RPG) Pathfinder (the newest evolution of legendary RPG Dungeons & Dragons). We are located 2 miles from the intersection of Patton and Haywood in West Asheville. We’ll let their imaginations run wild while they do! Experiential learning through Cartography, Math, Language Arts and Storytelling all come into play with this RPG, and kids exercise their social skills in group decision making and strategic thinking. Our facilitators aim to infuse content with learning opportunities in nature studies and ecocentric thought. Excursions to the woods around the homestead lend themselves to the storytelling value of the game and there will be time for free play/lunch/snack breaks and visits with the farm animals of FELC. Healthy snacks are provided but send a bag lunch. Work Trade opportunities are available!
