IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!

Asheville area parents! This guide to summer camps is a WORKING LIST, and is NOT complete. We felt is was important to release as soon as possible since some camps released their schedules as early as January, with discounts that you can only take advantage of before a set deadline. Other camps have not released their dates yet, and will announce their schedules in the coming weeks or even months. Depending on which groundhog you believe, we may not be done with the worst of winter yet, and that could mean an even longer school year, so some camps are likely holding off until they know a firm date. If you see a blank next to “2019 DATES”, the information you see is from their 2018 season, and will be updated to 2019 as soon as they make an announcement with that information. Keep that in mind, and use this guide as a guide for what’s POSSIBLE as an option for your child, this summer. We will continuously keep updating this list, so keep checking back!

Little Ninjas program. It is a XXX week introduction to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). What is BJJ, and why should your kids try it? BJJ is a martial art focused on grappling and ground control with emphasis on controlling an opponent or attacker. This is a HUGE advantage for smaller kid! No matter you reason for getting your child into BJJ, they will receive all of the physical, cognitive, social benefits, and just as importantly, they will be able to defend themselves. THREE immediate results. You will see in your child after just a few classes with us: Increased attention span and better focus (better listening), How to recognize goals and plan for success, and Self-confidence boost. These aren’t the only upsides to taking up a martial arts as a kid. They Sleep better because training with us is a WORKOUT! There are a lot of different kids from different backgrounds doing something they really like to do! This allows for AWESOME Socialization and builds great friendships! It’s not that there’s a special potion or spell we cast that magically make you kid the most confident in the room. But, through the process and structure of our program that our instructors has built, they can be if they so choose.

The YMCA of Western North Carolina offers a variety of award-winning summer day camps throughout the region. Science, sports, arts, and adventure—we’ve got a camp for every child. Full or half day camps available.

Discovery Camp: (Rising 1st-Rising 7th Grade) … Located in Buncombe and McDowell counties, our Discovery Camps offer licensed childcare to rising 1st through rising 7th graders. Campers in Buncombe participate in theme-based weeks including Star Productions, Mad Science, Once Upon a Time, and We Are The World. All camps offer traditional activities such as swimming, camp outs, and adventure in addition to themed activities. Lunch is provided.

Explorer Camp: (Ages 4-13yrs) … Explorer Camp is a traditional outdoor adventure day camp in Buncombe County and Henderson County. At Buncombe County Explorer Camp we aim to give kids the full outdoor summer camp experience and then some. By tapping into the Western North Carolina landscape and embracing the diversity of our campers, we create a safe environment to explore outdoors and discover what campers can achieve. While developing skills in wilderness, gardening, and adventure recreation, campers grow in self-confidence and strengthen our community. Explorer Campers leave every day with dirt on their hands, a smile on their face, and the spirit of camp in their hearts. Activities include archery, high and low ropes, gardening, forestry, field trips, and more.

Adventure Camp: (Ages 9-13yrs) … Adventure Camp is an off-site, field trip-based camp for the true outdoor enthusiast. All campers must be able to pass a swim test and be ready to hike, swim, and explore the Blue Ridge Parkway. Open to children ages 9-13. At Adventure Camp, kids come home tired, happy and with a new experience every day! This camp is designed for the extreme outdoor enthusiasts to have the BEST summer ever! Campers spend the week exploring WNC’s swimming holes and hiking trails. They take on exhilarating outdoor activities and develop deep appreciation of our local landscape. Past Adventure Camp sessions have featured horseback riding, river tubing, white water rafting, paint balling, high ropes courses, bouldering, and more.
