The 74th Annual Asheville Holiday Parade, presented by Bojangles of WNC, rolls, dances and marches through downtown Asheville on Saturday, November 23rd beginning at 11am. The parade features nearly 100 entries including businesses, nonprofits, school and youth groups, marching bands, and of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

THIS YEAR’S GRAND MARSHAL IS MS. WHEELCHAIR USA, MADELINE DELP

Madeline is a graduate of UNC Asheville and a resident of Buncombe County. She learned at a young age that sometimes almost losing your life can be the catalyst to truly finding it in a way you never had before.

Madeline is an entrepreneur, speaker and pageant “roll-model” who loves to chase bold adventures. At just 10, she suffered a T-10 spinal cord injury, and since has climbed Mt. Rushmore and traveled the world. Madeline continued her passion of inspiring empowered living by founding a nonprofit organization called Live Boundless, which helps to deliver wheelchairs to medically underserved countries around the world. Her next adventures include being the first woman in a wheelchair to compete in Miss North Carolina USA and traveling to the Philippines and Ecuador for wheelchair delivery projects – along with shark cage diving in Florida!

The Asheville Downtown Association is once again partnering with Winter Lights at the North Carolina Arboretum and the City of Asheville to bring festive holiday lights to Pack Square and Pritchard Park in Downtown Asheville. On Friday, November 22 from 5-7pm they will host the Downtown Local Lights lighting ceremony, as well as offer FREE photos with Santa and Mrs Claus. They’ll light up the park at 6pm after a brief ceremony, and also have free crafts with the LEAF Easel Rider.

In 2011, Davis completed the Appalachian Trail (2,185 miles) in 46 days, 11 hours and 20 minutes, making her the fastest A.T. hiker until the record was broken again in 2015. In total, she’s hiked more than 14,000 miles of long-distance trails on six continents — adventures that informed her seven books, numerous articles and interviews, and speeches on making the wilderness accessible to all. This Ashevillean served as board member for the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and an ambassador for the American Hiking Society.

For a third year, The City of Asheville, NC Arboretum, Asheville Downtown Association and Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority are partnering for Downtown Local Lights, an artistic holiday light display at Pack Square, and new this year, expanded to Pritchard Park. Downtown Local Lights will kickoff Saturday, November 17 at 5pm at Pack Square with free photos with Santa, hot chocolate from French Broad Chocolate Lounge and holiday carols from The Gay Men’s Chorus. The lighting ceremony will begin at 6pm.

We allow no one down to search for their tree after that time due to potential injury due to the rapid darkness of the time setting in. Once we reach our designed number of choose and cut trees, we will only have precut trees available. Once that happens, we will update our website to announce this so check the morning before coming to visit to make sure our status and to avoid disappointment. In the event we have trees available past Thanksgiving weekend, hours will be posted by Monday, December 2nd at 7:00 am. We do have a baler on site to bale your tree for easier transportation. Choose & Cut from a large variety of trees and make a Christmas tradition by taking a wagon ride on the farm and seeing all the animals, visit our Christmas shop with lots of farm made ornaments and look at all the wool products (scarves, hats and lots of other goodies), visit the snack shack for some treats and don’t forget to get your complimentary cup of hot chocolate and roast marshmallows in the firepit.  For your other Christmas decorations get  your fresh made Fraser Fir wreaths and garlands.  Someone will help you cut your tree or we have saws available – they will shake your tree and bale for the trip home. Snack shack and wagon rides are available on weekends only.

Bring the whole family and take a hayride to pick the perfect North Carolina Fraser fir Christmas tree. We have picnic tables around a pond and small animals (ducks, farm dog, etc.). Apple cider, hot chocolate and coffee along with other drinks and souvenirs will be provided at no extra cost. We have home made apple butter and honey for sale. Trout fishing in our pond is extra. We have all sizes of North Carolina Fraser fir trees to choose from. We furnish the saw to cut your tree or we will cut it for you and we will bail the tree. We have Fraser Fir Christmas trees that we sell wholesale as well as to a wonderful, loyal family of choose and cut customers. We also offer wreaths, apple cider made from organic apples grown here on the farm, and opportunities for hiking and picnicking all over the property. While we do not have an official petting zoo, our farm animals are always here and a welcome part of the farm attraction. Many of our customers bring their dogs and they enjoy a good romp across the farm as part of the festivities. We use 4-wheelers to haul trees cut from the field, and customers, especially children, often enjoy a ride on the quad. Bring your own tools if you’d like to cut it yourself, or they can cut it for you. 6-7ft $29, 7-8ft $40, 8-9ft $56, 9-10ft $82, and 10-11ft $125. Remember – cash or check only!
