This comprehensive guide to Asheville Area Playgrounds is your ultimate resource for recreation in Asheville with kids! Indoor playgrounds, as well as outdoor playgrounds are included, with everything you need to know in advance to plan your family friendly outing in Asheville and the surrounding area! Park Features

  • 4 adventures in one park! KidZip is a zipline park designed for kids 4-10 years old, and includes 9 ziplines and 4 climbing elements, and ranges from 50-250 feet long, with heights of 25 feet to ground level. Asheville Treetops Adventure Park includes 7 aerial trails anchored to over 30 trees and towering poles. Choose the trail, clip in, and climb amongst features “representative of the activities you can do in North Carolina including a sky kayak, a parkway tunnel, a snowboard in the sky, swinging hula hoops, bumper boats and a zip hang glider.” Seasonally, they offer Twilight in the Treetops night climbs!  Asheville Zipline Canopy Tours is for guests 8 and above, “set on a 124-acre resort and designated tree preserve perched in and amongst some of the oldest and largest oak trees in Asheville. Guests will see scenic mountain views while flying through tree-lined corridors as well as enjoying spectacular views of the Asheville skyline.” Visitors can also choose Kolo Bike Park, and experience experience “4 miles of purpose-built mountain bike trails and features on rolling terrain.”

The Wells Fargo Art PLAYce, located on the 2nd floor of the Asheville Art Museum in Downtown Asheville, “encourages creative wanderings for all ages in a sensory-rich environment. This art-inspired space allows for exploration of colors, shapes, textures, and patterns. Visitors can move and play, sit and enjoy a book, try out a variety of one-of-a-kind interactives created by regional artists, or make art of their own.” There is a colorful corner for soft play with foam shapes to play with, a kaleidoscope to peer through, a book nook to curl up in, an interactive wall with a magnet board, an oversized peg board, a marble maze, tablets, an art making station, stocked with supplies, and build stations to let your imagination run wild.

ASHEVILLE MUSEUM OF SCIENCE

Inside the Asheville Museum of Science is a fun multi level climbing structure that simulates the canopy of the Southern Appalachian Forest, topped with a kids sized birds nest, a separate area for toddlers with soft foam blocks, a water exhibit to splash in, a cast of a real dinosaur, a terra box to play manipulate topography, weather and solar system exhibits and activities, and a STEM lab for science demonstrations and experiments on select days, as well as the extensive Colburn Hall of Minerals collection.

  • CARD FOR KIDS AND TEENS … Children ages birth through 17 can get a library card with a parent or guardian who has a photo ID and proof of local residence. Teens ages 14 through 17 do not need a parent or guardian to get a library card — they can be issued a library card by providing a photo ID and proof of local residence at any library front desk. A school ID with a photo may be used as photo ID.
  • STUDENT ACCESS … Students who are enrolled in Asheville City Schools, Buncombe County Schools, Christ School, Francine Delany New School for Children and IC Imagine K-12 Public Charter School use their Student ID numbers to borrow public library books and access digital resources. For more information about Student Access, please check with your school administration, or email them at library@buncombecounty.org.
  • CARDS BY EMAIL … If you can’t visit the library to get a card, they can issue library cards by email. You will need to email a copy of your local ID to the library to them at library@buncombecounty.org. Contact the library at 828-250-4700 if you have any questions.
