NC Arboretum Winter Lights FACEBOOK GIVEAWAY CONTEST

Family Friendly Asheville has partnered up with The North Carolina Arboretum to bring you an amazing giveaway contest! Your prize pack will include a family 4 pack of passes for 1 LUCKY WINNER to experience Asheville’s BRIGHTEST Holiday Tradition: the Winter Lights Holiday Light Show (Runs nightly until January 4th!)! Featuring the Arboretum’s gardens dressed up in over half-a-million holiday lights, crafts and games for the whole family, a model train, fire pits and more, Winter Lights is the perfect way to celebrate the holidays. As the Arboretum’s largest fundraising event of the year, proceeds from Winter Lights help support the Arboretum’s educational programs, exhibits and facilities year-round.

Nestled in the Southern Appalachian Mountains just south of Asheville, The North Carolina Arboretum offers acres of cultivated gardens and groomed trails featuring some of the most beautiful, botanically-diverse plants in the region. Earthshine Christmas Village and Craft Market

Support local artisans in a traditional holiday craft market. Our pioneer village around the pond is transformed into a Christmas village complete with candle making, blacksmithing, wreaths for sale, llamas, and toasty fires. Come wander the village with your family to get in the holiday spirit or pick up a few gifts for your list. Children will enjoy making candles and ornaments at our blacksmith shop.

When you’re done with your shopping, head on up to the lodge for a cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate and take a look at our shop!

Free Theater! “The Montford Moppets Present: A Christmas Carol!”

This year’s “A Christmas Carol” will be decidedly different, but three times the fun! This year, a group of young actors at Montford Park Players, have decided to get together to rewrite the classic story for this years production. But no one on can seem to agree on how it should be done. Is Scrooge perhaps a Super villain battling the hero Bob Cratchit for Christmas domination, like in that one movie? Or maybe Scrooge it just an innocent victim on Jacob Marleys nefarious plans, like that other movie. Maybe the Ghost of Christmas Present is really just Santa clause taking a break, like in that one Christmas special…… This years Christmas Carol will take us on a journey through the imagination of youth, film and storytelling like you’ve never seen it, while still tell the classic heartwarming tale we all know and love. Created and written by our beloved Moppets themselves, this show is going to put a smile on your face that will last all the way through New Year’s Eve.

This show is presented outdoors, so please dress WARMLY!

Kids Holiday Cookie Lab

Dec 14th, 1:00pm-3:00pm … Kids will love this hands-on cookie workshop where they will learn how to make holiday cookies from scratch and decorate their masterpieces! Parents will have the chance to squeeze in some (kid-free) holiday shopping or enjoy a taste of the Taproom while their littles ones get creative. Our pastry chef will teach baking basics and kids will leave with decorated cookies and a fun, holiday recipe card. A pizza lunch will be provided. For ages 5-12. Under 5 with an adult. Winter Break Camp

Build confidence! Make new friends! Learn amazing new skills!

Your child will learn:

  • Taekwondo forms
  • Multiple fun kicks
  • Self-Control skills
  • Board breaking skills
  • Self-defense training drills
  • Safety concepts
  • …and so much more!

No martial arts experience is needed! In fact, this is a great way to kick off martial arts training in a positive environment with focused instruction and tons of fun.

This week of taekwondo camp also includes:

  • Martial arts games
  • Character development (Tenets of Taekwondo)
  • Craft time
  • Kid-friendly workouts
  • Sparring skills development
  • Mini-trips (weather dependent)

If you are new to taekwondo, you will come out of your week of winter break camp knowing your white belt form! If you already train, you will get focused curriculum training during camp, to sharpen your skills to a whole new level!

Camp runs Dec 30 2019 through Jan 3 2020, from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Camp price is $199. (This is special pricing, so there are not sibling discounts.)

$50 deposit due upon registration. Camp will be held at our Black Mountain facility. We will invoice for the remaining amount once minimum enrollment is reached. Final payment is due prior to the start of camp.

If you need to drop off and pick up at East Asheville, let us know and we will accommodate! (Drop off in Asheville will be at 7:45am instead of 8:30am.)

Openings in camp are filled on a first come, first served basis.

We have a minimum enrollment of 10 to run camp (if that’s not met, deposits will be refunded). We also have a max enrollment, since this is special pricing for a special event, so register early to ensure your spot.

Winter Fishing

Enjoy the warmth of a winter afternoon fishing. Join us for a quick lesson and then spend time casting for the big one. Fishing poles and bait will be provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult. This is a hands on program that takes place entirely outside, dress for the weather.
