Get a little inspiration for your Valentine this year! Drop by the site throughout the day to create your own love letter at this free workshop.
During the two years before their 1853 wedding, Zebulon Vance and Harriet Espy exchanged over 100 love letters. Using Hattie and Zeb’s words as inspiration, craft a valentine for your own beloved! Try out a vintage salutation, make a stab at quill pen writing or calligraphy, and finish your letter with a wax seal.
Join us on Saturday, April 26th for a day of sensory learning and fun at Vance Birthplace! Patch-a-Palooza welcomes families with K-8th grade children to try their hands at various historic crafts from making butter and candles to writing with a quill pen. Each learning station has a stamp, and children who earn a stamp from every station will receive a Vance Birthplace patch along with their take-home crafts. This is a great opportunity for children to learn about life in Western North Carolina in the 1800s while working on their fine motor, artistic, and critical thinking skills.
Admission is $7 per child to cover the cost of craft supplies. Adults may enter for free unless they choose to participate in the crafts. Enter through the visitor center to pay admission and receive stamp cards. This event is appropriate for all ages but is primarily geared toward elementary and middle grade learners.

Ben & Jerry’s is having a grand opening this Saturday, and “the ice cream company founders are coming to Asheville to meet the staff and the biggest ice cream fans Asheville has to offer. Ben and Jerry plan to visit the shop and scoop free ice cream from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. In keeping with the company’s mission to give back, the Asheville shop will help raise awareness and funds by donating tips to their charity partner: Girls on the Run of Western North Carolina, and will continue serving free scoops to raise money until 4:00 p.m. After 4:00, they will still offer a 20% discount off purchases for the remainder of the day.”

Do you make the best chili in the neighborhood? All of Weaverville? Well here’s your chance to prove it! Join us as we host the First Annual Super Bowl Chili Cook Off @ Eluvium Brewing Company.
Bring your chili and let the people decide whose is best! Winner and Runner-up will receive prizes from the brewery. Entry will be limited to the first 15 participants.

On Superbowl Sunday we’ll provide tables and power supplies for everyone to set up there crock pots or cookers.
Folks will sample each chili and everyone who buys a beer that day will get a ticket which they will use to vote for their favorite chili. Whoever gets the most votes wins.
Judging starts at 5 pm and winners will be announced at Super Bowl half-time.

The purpose of this military museum is to provide an avenue for people to appreciate and honor the men and women who served so bravely in our Armed Forces.
Some examples of what the museum will feature include one-of-a kind artifacts, uniforms, weaponry, original newspapers, personal letters, etc.
All of these special items and more weave the great and proud stories of World War I, World War II, Korea, The Cold War, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
They display and help us empathize with the wonder, but also the danger of our involvement in these wars, and the unique sacrifice of our military men and women!
An added bonus will be lectures outlining battles and their strategies, political aspects of wars, and an expert analysis of all facets of a West Point educational and military experience from a parent perspective.
Love of country plus gratitude to those who served proudly equals the museum’s theme for all ages, both young and old.
