Craft Fair, Summer Edition

Thursday, July 18 -Sunday, July 21 10:00am-5:00pm

The Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands returns to downtown Asheville’s Harrah’s Cherokee Center. Over 100 juried artisans of the Southern Highland Craft Guild will fill both the concourse and arena levels of the venue. Visitors are invited to explore a variety of fine American craft ranging from contemporary to traditional works of clay, wood, metal, glass, fiber, natural materials, paper, leather, mixed media, and jewelry. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to engage with the region’s finest makers.

Sidewalk Flea Market/Yard Sale

Hi friends! Several folks are getting together Saturday, July 14 for a sidewalk flea market/yard sale right here at the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts. Items include furniture, clothing, accessories, books, toys, Disney and American Girl collectibles and more! 8am – 2pm A portion of the proceeds will benefit missions and local charities. MLK Jr. Drive completion celebration

The City of Asheville is proud to join with the East End/Valley Street Neighborhood Association for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the completion of one of the City’s first big bond projects — the resurfacing of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Everyone is welcome to join City officials, staff and members of the neighborhood for the celebration at 9 a.m. July 14 at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 50 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

The bond-funded Martin Luther King Jr. Drive project cost $2.5 million, including sidewalks, stormwater improvements and other infrastructure.

Summer Cook Out with Quentin

Join us for a bbq dinner fundraiser for Quentin at Carrier Park in Asheville! (We’ll be at the picnic shelter by the big parking lot.)

Quentin and our campaign team will be on hand and we’ll have info and answer questions on how you can get involved and help him win this fall!

Quentin is running for Buncombe County Sheriff as the Democratic nominee, the election will take place on November 6th. Learn more at www.quentinforbuncombe.org.

We’ll have yard signs, bumper stickers, T-shirts for folks.

Healing with Animals and Culinary Herbs

Come to North Asheville Library for a free class on holistic healing led by Jessie Moon Marks of Moon’s Herbs- Medicinal Plant Nursery. Marks, whose ecologically friendly herb farm focuses on natural and sustainable products, will teach the forgotten medicinal uses of readily-available weeds and culinary herbs, as well as covering the health benefits of human-animal interaction. This program is free and open to the public, and no registration is required.

Fernleaf family movie night (all are welcome)

Join us for a family fun movie night to benefit Fernleaf Community Charter School! Event starts at 6:00 pm with the movie “ Up” showing at 7:30 pm. A $5.00/person or $20.00/ family suggested donation will be collected by school representatives. Make sure to grab dinner and a drink because 10% of sales will go towards the school! Non alcoholic beverages including our 2-ditty root beer will available. Make sure to bring blankets and lawn chairs.
