Come experience true Mountain Racing at the Wolf Ridge Ski Slopes in the midst of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina.

The Hill Climb, 5k, & 10k Distances are separated by time to allow those crazy enough to attempt all three races.

The 5k & 10k will race up and down the mountain on a 1.5 mile loop which will gain 700 plus feet each loop. Your quads will ache by the end of this one.

By why stop there? We’ve thrown in a 1K hill climb straight up the steepest part of the mountain! If you can run up this course without using your hands, you will earn legendary status!

We also have a kids race (roughly 3/4 mile) that will allow them to get a taste of Mountain Running!

Bethel Half Marathon & 5K

Run along the peaceful, tree-lined backcountry roads of the area made famous by Charles Frazier’s best-selling novel Cold Mountain, the Asheville Track Club-sanctioned Bethel Half Marathon and 5K takes runners along an out-and-back course filled with the changing autumn leaves, the rolling Appalachian mountains in the distance and the Pigeon River that flows near town.

From the starting line at Bethel Middle School on Sonoma Road, the course for the half takes runners from the school down highway 276, then to Love Joy Road, and then begins a moderately inclining uphill until a turn back onto Lake Logan Road.

After heading back towards the starting line, runners take Pisgah Drive to Wells Rd before taking a left on Old River Rd and heading back to the finish line.  As for the 5K, the finish line is on the Middle School’s running track.

On the half marathon course, runners should look for water stations at four stops and organizers caution all participants to be aware of traffic on the roadways along the course. Nearly 215 runners crossed the finish line in both races combined at the event’s 2016 running, with nearly 105 of those runners finishing the half marathon alone.

Mix 96.5 Race To The Taps Series (2 distances at each event)

March 10th – 5k or 8k – Catawba Brewing – Asheville

April 28th – 5k or 10k – Pisgah Brewing – Black Mountain

September 29th – 5k or 7Miler – New Belgium Brewing – Asheville

October 27th – 5k or 8Miler – Bold Rock Cidery – Mills River

No one says you have to run a marathon in one day. Or do it without beer. You might even feel running a 5K is enough to earn you a great local brew.

The Mix 96.5 Race To The Taps is back for 2018, with the return of the “Marathon Edition” – participate in the season of runs at four area breweries, and you’ll end up running 26.2 miles. Western North Carolina’s favorite running event is also “doubling down”, with two courses at each event. In addition to distances that add up to a marathon, each brewery will also have a 5K option:

All races will start at 9 am, with registration including a cold craft brew at the finish line party for those at least 21. Visit the828.com Results Zone as you toast your achievement with a local beer or cider. Once again this year, each event will offer awards for top finishers in each age category, along with King and Queen of the Taps awards, for those who display the best spirit and fantastic flair.

You can register now online for either distance at any brewery. If you sign up to be a marathoner by March 8, you’ll receive a special discount, along with a commemorative flight glass at each race, and a Race To The Taps marathoner wooden flight board upon completing your 26.2 miles. Individual races are $25 for 5K runners, and $40 for the longer marathoner distances.

A portion of proceeds from each race day will benefit great non-profits in Western North Carolina, including the Kiwanis Club of Asheville, Children First/Communities in Schools, Southside Woodworks and GO! Green Opportunities.

Asheville Urban Odyssey Scavenger Hunt/Race

The Asheville Urban Odyssey is the most fun scavenger hunt you will ever do and a perfect representation of Asheville. Teams of four will leave One World Brewing (10 Patton Ave) every ten minutes beginning at 12 noon and follow a series of clues to both obscure and well known Asheville locations.

At each location, a team member must complete a specific task before receiving their next clue (each team member will need to complete two tasks). After a team completes its eighth task they will make their way back to APB for their final challenge. The completion of the final challenge will constitute the finish time.

The use of smart phones is not only allowed but highly encouraged. Teams can phone a friend or ask passersby for assistance. The only rule is you follow traffic laws along the route.

All members of the winning team will receive a $100 gift certificate to use at either Diamond Brand Outdoors or Frugal Backpacker!

All participants that are 21+ will receive a beer on us, from One World Brewing.
