Asheville Outdoor Families – Search for Blue Ghost Fireflies

Once a year for a short duration, blue ghost fireflies hover the forest floor with a lingering bluish glow. Seek alongside naturalists on paved trails as to why this small firefly has been the focus of generations worth of folklore and myths.

UGrow Community Dig Day Fundraiser

Save the Date for Bounty & Soul’s second annual UGrow Community Dig Day Fundraiser, taking place at the Swannanoa Valley Medical Center on Saturday, May 25. Enjoy an afternoon outdoors at this fun, family-friendly celebration centered around growing LOCAL, organic food, in partnership with Sow True Seed, Banner Greenhouses and Eat Smart Black Mountain.

Dig in and get inspired by taking part in interactive, educational gardening workshops and demos for adults and kids while enjoying local music and food all while raising funds to support the growth and expansion of Bounty & Soul’s unique, whole-person wellness programming.

Asheville Adventure Play will be onsite with their pop-up playground as well as a variety of earth-friendly vendors. Event is 11am-5pm with $10 admission (includes access to all workshops, demonstrations and 3 organic plant starts). Kids 12 and under FREE. Stay tuned for more details! Babysitter’s Training Course (11+yrs)

BABYSITTER TRAINING!
May 5th 8:00am-3:30pm – Babysitter’s Training Course at the Woodfin YMCA with YMCA of Western North Carolina. “Designed primarily for youth ages 11 and older, this course will prepare students to be better babysitters. Topics include how to provide care for infants and children, how to stay safe, what to do in an emergency, how to choose age-appropriate activities, and how torecognize and handle a variety of behaviors. First aid and choking prevention skills included.”

The class is generally held once a month, if this one doesn’t fit your schedule!

First Friday Art After Dark Event

First Friday of the Month, May through December in downtown Waynesville. The galleries stay open until 9pm and offer a variety of demonstrations, music and refreshments for the public to enjoy.

As you stroll the streets, look for the Art After Dark flags that will guide you to participating galleries. You’ll have a chance to tour studios, watch art demonstrations, and meet a variety of Haywood County creatives. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover new artists, pick up that special gift and learn about their inspiration and techniques.

Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Art After Dark is a must-see event that offers a unique and engaging experience in Downtown Waynesville and Historic Frog Level.

ETSU Old-Time Ramblers Mother’s Day Concert

The Sunday Concert series at the Canton Library hosts a special Mother’s Day concert featuring the ETSU Old-Time Ramblers, a stringband of students from the Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Country Music Studies program at East Tennessee State University. The band focuses on songs and tunes from the early periood of country music, a time when fiddles and banjos and a good song were to be found in just about every nook and holler of the Appalachian Mountains.
