Intro to Herpetology-FREE Kids Program

Scientists need YOUR help in studying animals everywhere, including your own backyard!

Join us for an introduction to herpetology, the study of reptiles and amphibians. You’ll learn all about our scaly and slimy friends and even meet a few live animals! You can also join our crew of ecoEXPLORERS — kids who submit observations of plants and animals for scientists to study and earn prizes while they do it.

Find out how you can earn your Herpetology Field Badge and a free pass to Box Turtle Day on June 9th. For ages 5 to 13 but all ages are welcome to attend.

Herpetology Challenge Workshop

Come get some extra help completing your Herpetology Challenge just in time for Box Turtle Day with a Herpetology Habitat Hunt.

All registered ecoEXPLORERS will receive 5 points for attending. The first 10 ecoEXPLORERS to email a RSVP to ecoexplore@ncarboretum.org will have their Arboretum gate fee waived.

Salamander Saturday

Did you know this area is called the Salamander Capital of the World? Join the Arboretum, Cradle of Forestry Interpretive Association, and the Western North Carolina Nature Center as we look for a variety of salamander species.

Stage Production: ‘Alice in Wonderland’

New Studio of Dances Alice and Wonderland promises to be a surreal experience that is playful, tongue-in-cheek, yet filled with adventure and fun. You may already know Alice, Mad Hatter, and the Queen of Hearts, but how long has it been since you’ve heard the story of the Duchess and her pig/child? This dance theatre production will bring you back to the book by Lewis Carroll, where it all started.

Canoeing Adventure (4+yrs-Adult)

May 13, 9am-6pm
For adults and kids ages 4+

Join us for a day on the lake canoeing and exploring the flora and fauna of the watershed. Transportation to the lake and canoe gear will be provided.  Be sure to bring water and a lunch.

Participants should be in good physical condition and all youth under 18 must register with an adult. Our meeting place will be at the WNC Nature Center Classroom.

Fee: $30, City of Asheville residents receive a $5 discount. Register on-line through the City of Asheville’s Parks & Recreation Department, www.ashevillenc.gov.

CANCELLED: Spring Fling Vendor Fair

*** The Spring Fling fundraiser event scheduled for this Saturday, May 5th, from 12-3PM at The Rock Church has been cancelled due to a rainy forecast.We want everyone to have the best experience, so we’re looking towards June for a new date for what will now be called Summer Fest!

Edneyville Troop 605 21st Annual Boy Scout BBQ Fundraiser

This is the once a year event that Bub welcomes the public to this local farm which boasts a replica of a small old western town, featuring a general store, gas station, saloon, hotel, court house, post office, bank, sheriff’s office, chapel, school house and more! This alone is worth the trip out!

 

This fun-raising fundraiser will include bluegrass, gospel and old-time bands playing in the barn. There will also be a raffle for a Henry rifle, as well as a silent auction.

$10/Adults, $5/Children ages 6-12yrs, FREE/Kids 5 & under, $35/Family Tickets good for up to 5 people
