FernLeaf Yard Sale & Lemonade Stand

At FernLeaf, community is an important value we are intentional about cultivating. One of the ways we are doing that this spring is through FernLeaf Improvement Projects (FLIP) involving students across grade levels.

These projects will affect our school, scholars, and campus in a myriad of positive ways.

One FLIP focus is a Rain Garden — a garden designed to collect run-off from the parking lot from going into our watershed and specifically Cane Creek which runs through our campus.

This industrious group has planned a yard sale for March 30 to help raise the funds for their garden. They are accepting donations and you can plan to shop for some incredible bargains. Both options help their fundraising efforts.

Oh, and because shopping can make a person thirsty, they will also be running a Lemonade Stand.

FREE ‘Parenting the Digital Generation’ Presentation

PARENTING THE DIGITAL GENERATION PRESENTATION!
Mar 8th 9:00am-10:00am – FREE ‘Parenting the Digital Generation’ Presentation with national expert on student safety and executive director of Campus Outreach Services and Take Back the Night Foundation, Katie Koestner at AB Tech Community College, with Hanger Hall School for Girls. Appropriate for parents of children ages 3-18 years, or professionals who work with them.

NEW DATE & LOCATION: Katie Koestner, national expert on student safety and executive director of Campus Outreach Services and Take Back the Night Foundation, presents “Parenting the Digital Generation,” 9-10 am, Thursday, March 8, in the Ferguson Building Auditorium on the main campus of AB Tech Community College. The event is free and open to the public. Appropriate for parents of children ages 3-18, or professionals who work with them.

Koestner presents an engaging program on digital citizenship and social media best practices, including online privacy, free speech and the concept of a digital dossier, weaving important facts and research findings with personal anecdotes and real-life stories.

How tech savvy are you compared to your child? Can they out-app a phone before you’ve noticed the new privacy concerns with what they did? What is ‘caming and “zuckering?” Could your teen’s friends’ tagged photos on their Instagram ever be seen by a college scholarship committee? Want to learn even more? Then come to this fun, engaging program, brimming with must-know info!

As the first victim of date rape to speak out nationally about her sexual assault at the age of 18, Koestner appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine and launched a new national discussion about rape and consent. Since then, she’s been an advocate and activist for student safety and sexual assault prevention. Her testimony on Capitol Hill was instrumental in the passage of federal student safety legislation, and she has assisted the U.S. Department of Education in developing and providing programs to women in high-risk communities. She has spoken to audiences in more than 3,000 schools, and has appeared on Oprah, NBC, CNBC, CNN, Good Morning America, and dozens of other television programs. She is the subject of an H

Run For Holland 5K

The purpose of the Run For Holland 5K is to raise awareness in our community about Down Syndrome and other disabilities. Specifically, to raise awareness for parents who have had or are having a child born with a physical or mental disability. We want to show these parents that having a child with Down Syndrome or any other disability is not the end of the world, it is the beginning of a wonderfully different, more fulfilling world.

CODE PURPLE WARNING IN ASHEVILLE: Emergency Weather Advisory

CODE PURPLE!

Via Asheville Police Department and Asheville City Government: The weather is predicted to be severely cold (when the temperature falls below 32 degrees (or the equivalent with the wind chill factor), and in response, a Code Purple has been issued for Asheville and Buncombe County. “Asheville area shelters are offering emergency cold weather services to people who are currently experiencing homelessness and would not otherwise have a safe, warm place to stay. For any children ages 0-6 with a sibling up to age 10 can be placed in an Angels Watch home free of charge. Parents or shelters can contact 828-775-0837 for immediate child placement. Persons experiencing homelessness will have the opportunity to come inside and warm up during the day, even if a shelter would typically be closed. Extra floor, cot, and bed space will be available at overnight shelters to ensure that no one has to stay outside.”
