2017 Annual Holiday Art Sale

Featuring ceramics, prints, photographs, paintings, glass, and sculpture

UNC Asheville’s Department of Art and Art History will hold its annual Holiday Art Sale December 1 – 2, 2017, in UNC Asheville’s S. Tucker Cooke Gallery, located on the ground floor of Owen Hall. Visit the sale between 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday and between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The sale is open to the public.

A wide variety of functional and decorative pottery, drawings, prints, paintings, photography, glass, and sculpture crafted by UNC Asheville students will be on sale with pieces beginning at $5. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Department of Art and Art History.

Asheville’s own Billy Jonas will bring his creative, interactive and soul-inspiring family concert to the Grey Eagle. It’s funky folk music for the whole family! In addition, JCC all-star musicians Penny White and Seth Kellam will open, and join Billy. Come celebrate the holidays, sing along, and help raise money for the JCC!

2017 Canton Christmas Tour of Homes

This Sunday from 1-5, the Canton Educational Foundation will be sponsoring the Canton Christmas Parade of Homes. The museum is the host. Come by the museum and register for one of the historical photos enlarged by Roland Osborne. Phil Paxton will be displaying his paintings featuring the Canton area countryside. Also, we will be serving apple cider, coffee, and cookies. Be sure to check under the Christmas tree downstairs. Underneath will be Christmas Cards and ornaments that the museum is giving away.

Paint a rock to help spread kindness in our community. Give your rock as a gift or hide it somewhere for someone else to find and post on the “HVL NC Rocks” or “WNC Rocks” Facebook pages.

Intro to Ornithology (K-5th Grade)

Scientists need YOUR help in studying birds everywhere, including your own backyard!

Join us for an introduction to ornithology, the study of birds. You’ll discover how to identify some common birds and join us for a short birding walk. You can also join our crew of ecoEXPLORERS — kids who submit observations of plants and animals for scientists to study and earn prizes while they do it.

Find out how you can earn your Ornithology Field Badge and a free pass to Backyard Bird Day on Feb. 17th. For ages 5 to 13 but all ages are welcome to attend.
