Equipment Swap

We are excited to announce that this month the Physical Therapists of Carolina Pediatric Therapy will be hosting a service event. As therapists, we recognize the burden for families regarding the cost of specialized equipment.

We wanted to address those needs by hosting an equipment swap day at our Asheville clinic (address below). Families and caregivers who are looking to make space in their home or get rid of equipment they no longer need can have a place to donate the equipment to and also a place where they might be able to look for a piece of equipment they might need. We will be recruiting volunteers from National Seating and Mobility to make adjustments to equipment as needed and hoping to serve our families in our surrounding community of Western North Carolina.

Equipment such as chairs, floor sitters, walkers, crutches, standers, wheelchairs, positioning devices and other modified play equipment or mobility devices.

Carolina Pediatric Therapy’s physical therapists will be present to facilitate the process of exchange, but if you’d like to volunteer we can always use a helping hand! We are inviting National Seating and Mobility to help with any repairs, and we will have a pressure washer to clean equipment as well.

Let your families know about this great event! If you have questions, please call us at (828) 670 8056.

Earth Day Workday

If you are looking for a meaningful Earth Day activity, please consider joining UNC Asheville Professor Ellen Pearson for a workday in the South Asheville Cemetery this Saturday, April 22, 9 a.m. to 12 noon with a mid way break for a history lesson.

The South Asheville Cemetery is an African-American burial ground in Asheville’s Kenilworth neighborhood, just south of downtown. It was established in the 19th century, and about 2000 African Americans were buried there between the mid-19th century and the early 20th century. It is maintained solely by volunteer labor. UNC Asheville’s students, staff and faculty have been involved in its upkeep for over a decade.

This Saturday, April 22, UNC Asheville will be joining folks from Warren Wilson College and the Kenilworth and Beaucatcher neighborhood to do some general cleanup and plant grass seed in the South Asheville Cemetery followed by a chili lunch in the St. John A Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Please announce this opportunity to your students, colleagues, friends — all are welcome! If anyone is interested in more information and directions to the cemetery, they are welcome to contact Ellen at epearson@unca.edu
