ACS Community Series: An Evening of Academic Achievement

This free event is to designed to bring district families and community partners together to step into students’ shoes and experience our district’s instructional frameworks. How are students being taught literacy? Why is my child learning math in this way? Find out at An Evening of Academic Achievement!

Join us to learn about the resources currently available for ACS students to succeed academically. Tables will be set-up around the room, with representatives from AVID, AIG, Dual Enrollment, etc, to talk to you about how your child can grow academically.

Downtown’s Holiday Street Lighting

Downtown’s Holiday Street Lighting kicks off the season with Christmas songs, hot drink and delicious treats, shopping and a countdown as Santa arrives to light up Main Street. Free visits with Santa and carriage rides at 5:30 at the Historic Courthouse on Main St.

Santa’s Hours:

  • Monday – Saturday: 10am – 9pm
  • Sunday: Noon – 6pm
  • Sunday, December 22, Santa will be available from 11am-8pm
  • Monday, December 23, Santa will be available from 9am-10pm
  • Tuesday, December 24, Santa will be available from 8am-6pm

Please note that Santa takes a break to feed the reindeer from 1pm to 2pm and 5pm to 6pm on Monday thru Saturday, and from 3pm to 4pm on Sunday.

‘James and the Giant Peach JR’ stage production

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way.

“Aladdin Kids’ stage production

Parkway Playhouse has become known in the last few years for its excellent youth productions. Aladdin Kids will be no exception! This Parkway Playhouse Junior show features 4-11 year olds from Mitchell and Yancey counties. Students have been rehearsing since early September and plan to dazzle audiences with their high-energy dance numbers, memorable songs, and even some tumbling routines. This show is the perfect family friendly outing for parents wanting to introduce their children to “a whole new world” of performing arts!

Aladdin Kids runs November 18th and 19th at 6pm at Parkway Playhouse. Tickets are general admission and sold at the door.

Rock Art Of Joshua Marc Levy Feat. The Paper Crowns

The Rock Art Of Joshua Marc Levy Feat. The Paper Crowns Live, Sunday Dec 4th from 6-9pm, All Ages, Free. Opening artist reception features a live set of music by The Paper Crowns. Inside, an exhibit of local & worldwide rock art created by local Asheville artist Joshua Marc Levy. Levy’s art has represented over 60 different bands and artists in 2016 alone, including local superstars The Broadcast, The Fritz, The Dirty Badgers, Nest Egg, Hard Rocket, Ouroboros Boys, River Rats and more. See a series of hand-pulled concert screen prints, new album cover art, live photography, original ink drawings for posters, with preliminary & post project collages. This a very special and inspiring exhibit. Rare prints available for purchase opening night. Framing by BlackBird Frame & Art.
