Expect the brilliantly unexpected from Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre’s fourth annual performance of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. ACDT shocked and surprised audiences last year with their original version of The Nutcracker. Though The Nutcracker might be the world’s most famous ballet, if it is being performed by ACDT you can guarantee it is something you haven’t seen before. Their version couldn’t be farther from Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet. It is based on the original and much darker story written in 1816 by German author E.T.A. Hoffmann.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the bravest Chihuahua of them all? Skippyjon Jones the Siamese cat who thinks he’s a Mexican Chihuahua, of course! A musical twist on the classic fairytale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, based on the book by Judy Schachner.

Great Illustrations: Kids Create Characters with Constance Lomb

Kids and family of all ages are invited to come make art with local author/illustrators Constance Lombardo and Laura Boffa. Get some tips on how to sketch a character to life, and then spend plenty of time drawing your own.

Constance’s illustrated middle grade novel, Mr. Puffball: Stunt Cat to the Stars, and the recently released second book in the series, Mr. Puffball: Stunt Cat Across America, have been purring their way into our hearts, while Laura’s picture book Writing Home: The Story of Author Thomas Wolfe has been spreading the love for Asheville’s native son.

Vance Rocket Run 5k and Kids’ Comet Dash

Grab your family and friends and come run with us through West Asheville neighborhoods. The Rocket Run is a 5k race that begins and ends at Vance Elementary School and the Kids Comet Dash is a fun obstacle course race for kids. 5k starts at 9am, Kids Dash is at 10am.
