Erica Westley – Fastpitch, a history of softball!

Did you know that fastpitch is 129 years old and that it was originally developed by a Chicago boat club who played with broomsticks? That some of its stars included a man who struck out players while wearing a blindfold and that pitcher Joan Joyce once struck out the legendary baseball player Ted Williams? Did you know there was a competative women’s league in New Olreans called the Jax Maids and one in Connecticut called the Raybestos Brakettes? Yes, all true!

Join us for journalist Erica Westly as she speaks about her new book; an examination of fastpitch, its rich history & evolution, and the importance that it has had in the fight for gender equality in sports and beyond. This should be a real treat for all all of our history-loving, sports-loving, ball-playing book friends. Erica’s work has also been published in such publications as The New York Times, Smithsonian, Scientifc American and Esquire.
