Folkmoot, a word meaning “meeting of the people,” provides communities all over Western North Carolina the opportunity to build a deeper sense of connection, mutual respect and shared purpose by experiencing other cultures. Dancers from 10 nations around the globe and brand new events will spark the 33rd edition of Folkmoot festival when it convenes July 21-31 in our beloved Smoky Mountains. Independence Day Sunset Fireworks Hike
This year, celebrate the Fourth of July with your family, friends, guests, and the Swannanoa Valley Museum on a 1.5-mile, moderate hike to the peak of Sunset Mountain. Here, Museum guests will enjoy an old-fashioned watermelon cutting, and then stay to watch the sun set and the fireworks explode over the town of Black Mountain. Hike leaders will share the history and vintage photographs of this most historic place over dinner. Bring a picnic, water, folding chairs, cameras, and flashlights. The Museum will provide watermelon and transport cargo to the summit.

Jump Two: Tinikling (all ages)
Discover the traditional Philippine dance which originated during the Spanish colonial era. The dance involves two people beating, tapping, and sliding bamboo poles on the ground and against each other in coordination with one or more dancers who step over and in between the poles in a dance. The WCU Roadworks Presents: The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) (6th-12th Grade)
The WCU College of Fine and Performing Arts will present a free performance of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) at the West Asheville Library. Join these madcap players in tights as they weave their wicked way through all of Shakespeare’s comedies, histories and tragedies in one wild ride that will leave you breathless and helpless with laughter.
