LEAF Downtown AVL is all about Family. | For two days – Friday & Saturday –  Pack Square Park will be alive with three stages featuring national, regional, & local talent, Easel Rider activities, a LEAF Family Adventure Zone, dozens of roaming artists & buskers, a Prestige Subaru Adventure Zone, and interactive art installations for all to enjoy!.  The event starts Friday early afternoon and on Saturday 9am with the family friendly LEAF Art Dash 5K. Each night the park closes at 10pm.

LEAF Downtown AVL is all about Local Community. | Through a partnership with Asheville Grown, we aim to highlight local artists & locally-owned vendors. Enrichment activities, cultural exchanges, and civic engagement will also take place at the Voices of Asheville Tent through a series of collaborative alliances forged with HACA Residents Council, Center for Diversity Education, Nuestro Centro, Green Opportunities, Delta House Life Development, Eagle Streets Market Development & other community champions.

‘Converting a Golf Course Back to Nature’ nature hike

As part of Pollinator Week, Fred Roane, our park naturalist, will lead a nature hike through the park, showcasing the pollinator gardens and other “back-to-nature” projects in the park.

When Highland Lake golf course was ready to go out of business, the Village of Flat Rock stepped up to acquire the 66-acre property. Three years later, more than 1,500 trees have been planted, 20 bird boxes installed, three owl boxes put up, a honey bee hive is in place, and over 4,000 sq. feet of pollinator gardens have been planted.

Kids Yoga (5-9yrs)

Kids’ Yoga Series – Beginning Wednesday, February 7th at 4:30pm, Veda Studios will host a four-week Yoga series for kids ages 5-9. Children will practice mindfulness through movement guided by an intuitive and gentle instructor, Greta Lee Camp, who has extensive experience working with young ones. We hope you and yours will join us!
FREE sessions for parents/guardians during the Kids’ Yoga classes: Mindful Parenting, a gathering focused on reducing stresses often associated with the job of caring for children.

Held on our 3-acre fenced-in, private homestead in Asheville with chickens and rabbits and forest! Gardening, Enchanted Forest storytelling, campfires, water play, summer songs and puppetry, and more!

This year’s focus activity provides muddy fun for all ages… we will be planning and building children’s play huts together!

‘SonRise National Park’ Vacation Bible School (PreK-5th Grade)

At SonRise National Park they will discover Jesus provides what they truly need in every challenge of life.

As kids participate in fun-filled activities, they will be pointed directly to Jesus! We will have a great time with lively songs, hilarious skits, creative crafts, exciting games, Bible stories and tasty snacks—all of the things that make Vacation Bible School so much fun!

Closing Celebration Party Friday, July 29th @ 8:00pm : Children will sing songs and you will get a taste of what your child has learned throughout the week. Then we’ll head outside for a time of roasting marshmallows and eating Smore’s! You won’t want to miss it!!

Making Books with Kids demo and discussion

An inspiring collection of ideas and projects for encouraging an artistic spirit in children! Making Books with Kids features more than 25 creative, kid-friendly projects in design, illustration, paper decorating, binding techniques and more. Book artist and author Esther K. Smith offers an exciting resource of easy-to-follow instructions supported throughout with step-by-step, full-color photographs and illustrations.

Beginning Babywearing

3rd Thursday of every month

 

In this class we cover all of the different types baby carriers, offer the pros and cons and try to help you determine which one might be “the one” for you. We also offer instruction on safe babywearing practices and techniques that can be used across all types and styles of carriers. This is a free class, however space is limited to 5 couples to ensure everyone has ample opportunity for one on one instruction. Please give us a call or send us a message to reserve your space in this class.
