FREE + OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! International Museum Day

Free and open to the public, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Art Break, 12:00 p.m.
Family open studio, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Make It Yours listening session, 3:00 p.m.

Every year since 1977, International Museum Day is organized on May 18. From America to Oceania and from Africa and Europe to Asia, this year’s event celebrates the theme, “Museums and Cultural Landscapes.” Institutions around the world open their doors and organize programs that explore how museums are responsible for their landscapes – both inside or outside their walls, and both physical and cultural – by contributing knowledge and taking an active role in their management and upkeep.

30th Annual Folk Music Festival

A free music festival held on the grounds of Carl Sandburg Home NHS in Flat Rock, NC.

On Memorial Day folk musicians from across the region will converge at Connemara for a day of toe-tapping fun and music. Just as Carl Sandburg’s family enjoyed sitting on the porch while he played a guitar and sang for them, you can experience the gentle strums of folk music at Connemara.

This year there is a special Chicago-based theme for the program in celebration of Sandburg’s collection of poetry, Chicago Poems, published in 1916.

11:00 am – Dana and Susan Robinson play traditional folk music on guitar, banjo, fiddle and mandolin.

12:00 pm – The King Bees play blues, Chicago-style shuffles and rockabilly.
1:00 pm – Jon Shain performs country blues in a fingerpicking Piedmont style.
2:00 pm – Mac Arnold and Plate Full O’ Blues play Chicago-style blues with soul and funk

11:00 am – 3:00 pm– Steve and Jean Smith perform hammered dulcimer in the historic barn area.

Seating is available at the amphitheater or bring your own chair and rest under the hemlocks while you enjoy a day of folk fun. This event is free and open to the public. Snacks will be available for sale in the bookstore and tours of the Sandburg home will be available throughout the day for a small fee.

Community Garden Party

Beer is only as good as the ingredients we use to craft them.

This Sunday, May 15th from 10am-12pm we invite you to our brewery to plant fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs in our urban garden that will eventually become ingredients in the beers you enjoy in the taproom.

The cyclical nature and quality of craft is what Burial is built on and we invite you to be a part of it.

Join us along with B.B. Barns for a spring planting party and if you are able bring tools and gloves.

Garden Fresh Brunch by Salt & Smoke available at 12pm.

Rain date, May 22nd.

Candlelight Vigil for Community to grieve Candace Pickens

Community will gather to mourn the loss of one of our community members from an act of violence at Jones Park on Saturday at dusk.

Our community has been devastated to learn of a tragedy at one of our parks. It is time for us to come together to grieve the loss of a special, young mother. To support the mothers of our community, especially the single mothers. To stand together in defiance of violence. To gather in love with intentions of healing our own hearts so that we can ripple out and heal the world around us.

Please come with candles, words, songs, flowers, or just your beautiful selves.
