Recreation Destination Expo

This event is your one-stop-shop for everything Henderson County Parks and Recreation has to offer. Discover our parks and recreation facility, meet fitness and program instructors and learn all about our classes and programs.

Be one of the first to register for our various summer camps and ongoing programs. Interactive demos/handouts of our activities are just a few great features of this event. Gather information as well as enter for raffles for various classes, programs, basketballs, yoga mats, water bottles, etc.

Free expo t-shirts, soccer balls, basketballs and Frisbees will be given out during the event.

Lazy River Tubing Trips. Trips leave every 10 minutes between 10:30 am and 4 pm every day with an average time of 2.5 hours.

The Montford Moppets Summer Camp (11-18yrs)

July 24th-August 13th, Mon & Wed & Fri, 12-4pm

Performances: Aug 11-13 at 6:00pm

Summer Shakespeare for Kids by Montford Park Players


Class Cost : $150 (plus $5.50 online processing fee)

Early Bird Special by June 1st : $135 (plus $5.50 online processing fee)

The classes will be taught by local directors Jeff Catanese and Ashleigh Goff.

This season the play will be Macbeth. Auditions will be held during the first class and as we get closer to starting, sides will be provided for study beforehand.

At the end of the summer, the students will present their work immediately before Montford Park Players’ production of Peter Pan on August 11, 12 and 13 at 6:00pm. That show, like all other Montford Park Players’ production will be free to the community.

Opening Reception for Grovewood Rocks!

Art meets function in Grovewood Rocks! – a showcase of artisan made rocking chairs by 11 American woodworkers, including 6 from North Carolina. Rocker styles will range from traditional to contemporary and reflect the creative diversity and unique personality of each maker. This exhibition will be celebrated with an opening reception on June 4 from 3 – 6pm (free & open to the public).

Participating artists include Fatie Atkinson, Brian Brace, Curtis Buchanan, Alan Daigre, Brian Fireman, Joe Godfrey, Andy McFate, Libby Schrum, Leslie Webb, Seth Weizenecker, and Mark Whitley.

Summer Spike Youth Volleyball Event (9-18yrs)

What is Summer Spike?

Youth Volleyball Event for ages 9-18 years

Cost: $75 and includes: Registration, Event T-shirt, Jamboree, Skills Clinic, and Tournament Play.

This event brings together children, youth, and teens ages 9-18 who enjoy playing the dynamic sport of volleyball along with skilled professional volleyball coaches. Participants will have fun and build confidence while they sharpen basic skills of volleyball, learn court presence with a variety of players, and then apply those skills to tournament play. This event is appropriate for all levels of experience and skill. Participants should bring a bag lunch.

Coaches: 
Angela Freeze, Head Coach, A-Town Volleyball Academy, has been coaching for 19 years and attended the US National Women’s Volleyball team tryout for the US Olympics in 2014 and was invited back in 2015. She is a certified referee for High School and College play. She has played in many arenas worldwide, and actively plays today.

Jason Freeze, Head Coach, A-Town Volleyball Academy, began playing volleyball as a teenager and continued through his college career at Clemson University. He plays indoor and outdoor volleyball and loves teaching anyone who is interested in the game.  His weekends are spent on the volleyball court.
