Mothers Day Out Personal Safety Course (Mom’s ONLY and their kids 14+yrs)
This event is created for Mom’s ONLY and their kids! Where else can you learn about the proper usage of handguns and personal safety, protection and defense, enjoy lunch AND add a little pampering?
4 1/2 course starting with basic handgun training with Travis Rector from Overwatch Defense. This part of the course covers basic handgun operation, along with actual shooting range practice. Not only will your confidence of handling a handgun build, you will become more secure with proper technique and safety of firing one. Feel free to bring your own handgun and ammunition, however if you have neither we can provide those for you for an additional fee which can be discussed upon signing up.
After this portion of the day we will treat you to a catered lunch. Relax and chat with the group and prepare for the next portion!
The second part of the course will take you to FighterWithin and get physical! From there Leanne Hensley will cover basic self defense techniques for public safety as well as home and personal safety. This part of the course builds security, confidence and self worth of the female body and surroundings.
This Ladies Day is truly meant for Moms and their children. Bond with your children and become safer and more confident in the process. After you have finished with both courses, the moms will receive a chair massage and a special treat!

Plant Walk on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail with Heather Houskeeper
Ever wonder what wild plants you could eat out on the trail? Join two-time Mountains-to-Sea Trail thru-hiker, Certified Herbalist, and author Heather Houskeeper for a plant walk along the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. She will identify and describe these plants’ edible and medicinal properties giving you the knowledge to find them on your own treks or favorite wild places. This is a nature walk with lots of stopping to examine the plants along the way, so be sure to bring your notebooks and cameras as well as your hiking shoes!
This hike is rated easy to moderate and should take about two hours.
Heather is the author of “A Guide to the Edible and Medicinal Plants of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail.” She has thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail, Mountains-to-Sea Trail, and most recently was the first person to hike The Finger Lakes Trail System in one continuous trek. Play & Learn is a FREE 8-week series of adult-child groups. Help your child develop pre-literacy & social skills to get ready for kindergarten through fun, hands-on activities. Classes feature songs, finger plays, stories, games, hands- on activities, puppet shows & crafts.
To be eligible, children must reside in Buncombe County, be at least three years old, and not be enrolled in licensed child care. Younger siblings may also attend but materials are not provided for them.
