Kolo Flow Bike Summer Camp (6-13yrs)

At the Kolo Flow Bike Summer Camp, campers will ride on purpose-built mountain bike trails and skill elements designed for all levels of rider to experience flow on a bicycle. Kolo Bike Park is a great way for young riders to build confidence and skill in a controlled environment. Other activities include use of an outdoor swimming pool and indoor activities such as bicycle movies and games on bad weather days.

The camp is for kids age 6-13 years who can comfortably ride a two-wheel bicycle. Some off-road experience is recommended but not required. The camp runs weekly from 8:30-3:30 June 12 to August 18.

The itinerary for each day is generally as follows – though the order may change depending on weather and/or group dynamics:

  • Warm-up and stretching loosely based on yoga & martial arts practices
  • Off-the bike games
  • Bike skill instruction and ride time
  • Lunch
  • Off-the bike games
  • Free bike ride time grouped by skill-level
  • Open swim/pool time at resort pool on property
  • Pick-Up

Helmets are required anytime your child is on a bicycle. Campers will need to bring a packed lunch and any snacks they may need. Some snacks are available for sale at the Bike Park such as chips, pretzels, Clif, Honey Stinger, ProBar products along with PowerAde and SanPellegrino. Plenty of cold water is available for free on site, but each child should have a water bottle that can be carried on the bike. Campers should arrive “pre-sun-screened” if desired. Counselors may not be asked to apply sun screen.  A swim suit and towel will be needed to participate in pool time. A plastic bag to store wet clothes after swimming is recommended.

Prices are for BYO-Bike. If a rental bicycle is needed, arrangements must be made separately in advance by calling Kolo Bike Park at 828.707.4876.  Price for the camp with a rental bike is $350 per week.

CONCERT: Aaron Goldberg Trio

A sizzling night of jazz! Aaron Goldberg’s bread-and-butter jazz vocabulary and his mastery of blues and standards are second to none. Spontaneously sculpting every bar, he revels in the lesser-explored corners of jazz repertoire. Hailed by Down Beat for his “quick-witted harmonic reflexes, fluid command of line and cut-to-the chase sense of narrative logic,” Goldberg has made his mark as one of the genre’s most compelling pianists. From Brazilian ballads to roaring bebop, Goldberg’s trio brings wit and explosive chops to the music at hand – speaking from within the tradition while making their own fresh imprint upon it.

CONCERT: Jesse Cook

Spend an unforgettable evening with guitar virtuoso Jesse Cook, a master of flamenco and jazz rhythms that he intertwines with styles from around the globe.  The Juno Award (Canada’s Grammy) winner’s newest project, One World, unites music from every corner with electronic textures and beats, where sitars and violin gorgeously share space with synthesizers in sonic tapestries. Cook’s performances are a rich and inspiring mix of music punctuated by the astounding guitar work of one of the most influential figures in nuevo flamenco. “Jesse Cook plays with a proficiency and style that most guitarists can only conjure up in their sleep” (Tucson Lifestyle).

Hike on TUESDAY, MARCH 8th at 10:30am
BIG LAUREL RIVER TODDLER RAMBLE

“*The map on hikeitbaby.com is WRONG (again! Someday I’ll get this right…) Google Laurel River Store (5150 Old 25/70), and then park in the dirt lot on the side of Old 25/70. If you are coming from Asheville, it’ll be on the left BEFORE crossing the bridge and reaching the store.

This is a toddler-led stroll along a easy, wide dirt path next to the Big Laurel River. Suitable for jogging strollers as well.”
