NCRecr8 5k Race & Health Expo

Join runners and walkers around the state in the first NCRecr8 5k at Fletcher Community Park. This event is hosted by Fletcher Parks & Recreation and is coordinated by the NC Recreation & Park Association with 11 additional hosts in communities across NC. All events are taking place on the morning of April 16, 2016. Join the fun and show support for parks and recreation!

Be sure to stick around for a Health expo afterwards. Parking will be in the main parking lots in the rear of the Park on race day.

Beginner to advanced, all can find the perfect climb!

Need a belayer?  Call ahead to schedule one. Cost: $9hour.

Long time belayer?  Bring $5 and show off your skills and become
a certified Montford belay card carrier.

Want to learn to belay?  Schedule a belay card instruction class
for $25 and become a Montford belay card carrier.

The wall is also available for group rentals and birthday parties– ask for details!

Adapted Cycling Program (5yrs+)

In conjunction with Jason Mehler, PT and Safe Kids WNC, we are excited to offer this program focused on outdoor play and getting fit through planned games and activities.  This FREE program aims to improve riding skill and teach safe cycling strategies for youth ages 5+, with or without disabilities.  ALL pedaling abilities are welcome, ALL family and friends are invited to come out and ride with us, too!

Participants will need to bring their own bike/trike and helmet, unless other arrangements are made beforehand through the Therapeutic Recreation Program.

BoJangles’ Easter Eggstravaganza (toddler to 11yrs)

Come to the area’s largest free Easter celebration, Bojangles’ Easter Eggstravaganza! The fun will include free giant inflatables, crafts, face painting and a performance by the Mountain Thunder Cloggers. Egg hunts for ages 4-11 will be held at 4pm and a special egg hunt area will be available for ages 3 and under for the duration of the event. Bring your camera for a family photo with the Easter Bunny and do the chicken dance with Bo, the Bojangles’ Chicken. Children receive a free goody bag (whole supplies last). FREE

Vance Peace Garden Tree Pruning Workshop and Workday

The Vance Peace Garden is partnering with the Roots Foundation and the Buncombe Fruit and Nut Club to offer a tree and shrub pruning workshop. Come out and learn how to prune your perennials to increase their vitality and production! In the process, you will be helping to prune trees and shrubs in the Peace Garden.

Snacks and coffee will be provided! Drop in any time during the workday. Bring your pruning sheers and hand saws. Smaller children are also welcome, there will be little-one friendly activities as well!

Kid’s Dance Party! (all ages)

It’s a DANCE PARTY for the kiddos! And a fun time for all! Beer and wine for the adults, snacks and juice boxes for the kids (all natural, of course!), and loads of music! Bring the whole family! We’ve got mats for the wee ones, some fun circus toys, and lots of space!

2020 French Broad River Fins & Gills Classic Fishing Tournament

Meet at Woodfin Riverside Park. Two ways to fish: from a boat or from the bank.

Fun activities for kids of all ages. Fishing classes and live music.

First 100 kids get FREE fishing rod and tackle!

There will not be pre-registration for the tournament. You may fill out the form and bring it with you to help speed up the sign-in process or you can fill one out at the registration table the day of the tournament.

$20 per adult angler

$10 per angler age 13-15

Kids 12 and under are free

Red Wolf Teen Leaders Monthly Weekend Program (12-17yrs)

The Red Wolf Teen Leaders program cultivates teens who are equally comfortable and competent both in their communities and in the natural world. This is accomplished through community service, an ever deepening knowledge of place, and wilderness survival skills.

Teens in this program will develop a solid awareness of their individual gifts and will be well equipped to carry these gifts forward. Participants in RWTL will go on a series of adventures where they learn essential survival skills such as fire by friction, building natural shelters, wild food foraging and much more.

To provide a program that is accessible to families and yet offers a deep experience for the teens, we’re offering this program in 3 separate monthly classes that can be taken individually or as a whole. Each month consists of a Friday evening to Sunday afternoon weekend campout that has it’s own unique character, and together the 3 months weave a comprehensive and empowering wilderness experience.

Ages: 12-17

Times: Friday 5PM to Sunday 2PM

March 18-20
April 15-16
May 27-29

Price: $220 per weekend, $600 for all 3 (includes 6 meals, Fri. dinner to Sun. lunch)
