National Parks Centennial Tour in Asheville

Most of us don’t need a reason to celebrate the National Parks, but in 2016, the National Park Service turns 100. Backpacker Magazine + Subaru of America, Inc. have sent a road team on an epic road trip to celebrate the personalities, places, and stories that make the park service as iconic as the ranger hat.

The #NPS100 Road Team will stop in Asheville for a photography clinic on their way to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. If you’re a photography enthusiast, a fan of National Parks, a general outdoor-lover, or all of the above, join us for their tips on the perfect photo composition, long-exposure night shots, and other landscape photography essentials, while also explaining how we can capture the beauty of the parks while simultaneously working to preserve these lands for generations to come.

Aspiring photographers and outdoor junkies can also submit photos (http://bit.ly/1OSyRrN) of National Parks for a chance to win prizes from Diamond Brand Outdoors, including a Mountain Hardwear Optic 6, a spacious six-man dome tent.

Birds & Animals from Around the Globe presentation

“Lions and weaverbirds in the open grasslands of Africa. Kangaroos and bowerbirds in Australia’s sun-baked Outback. Black Bears and warblers here in our gentle North Carolina woodlands. Traveling the world looking for birds and animals takes one to some incredible places to see some amazing sights.

Ventures Birding Tours owner and international guide, Simon Thompson, has been leading tours for the last 20 years and has visited over 30 countries and seen over 4000 birds. During this “armchair presentation,” Simon will take us on a short world tour without us ever leaving our seats.”

Spring Break Teen Filmmaking Program

“Spring Break Teen Filmmaking Program is a five day program that is 9am to 4pm every day.  Students will be giving a choice of scripts to choose from which they must take from concept to completion in just five days.  This is a great program for the aspiring filmmaker and for anyone who wants a taste of the filmmaker’s life.  For seven hours each day the students will live, breath and eat the filmmaking process.  Lunch will be provided but the students will need to bring a snack and or money to get anything extra.

DAY 1.  Students will choose the script and start working with all the filmmaking equipment that they will be using throughout the week

DAY 2.  Students will storyboard the script and create the shot list and continue working with the equipment.

DAY 3.  Students will be on location as they begin shooting their chosen story.

DAY 4.  Students will finish up any remaining shots if needed (but we recommend keeping the shooting days to ONE).  They will then begin choosing the best takes and syncing the video and sound files.  Then they will begin the editing process.

DAY 5.  Students will continue editing from cutting the coverage, color correction and scoring.

Their will be five (5) separate Spring Break Dates.  each lasting five day.  These dates correspond the the several local Spring Break Schedules in and around the Asheville area. Rest assured, we WILL have a class that corresponds to your spring break schedule if you live in the Buncombe county area.

When making your payment please note which school you attend.  Thank You.

The finished projects will be screened at our yearly RED CARPET EVENT where all of the films throughout the year will be screened and awards will be given out.  This is a great event where we all dress up and go to our Oscar Type Event.  So, we hope you will be apart of this Red Carpet affair as we spend the evening acknowledging the great accomplishments of our students, meet new people, enjoy great food and have an all around great time.”
