Stroller Mafia Evening Walk

Remaining active or restarting activity are often a struggle in late pregnancy and the early postpartum period. Parent- to -Parent connection is the most ancient and trusted way for people to successfully ease their transition into parenthood. Join other parents and caregivers in this fun and functional workout group aimed at getting and keeping you moving, loving your body as it is, and connecting with one another. This event is intended for the whole family unit to build connections.

We usually meet at 5pm at New Belgium and walk from New Belgium to the dog park and back, which is about an hour total walking.

For those who want to stay for beverages or food, we will meet on the grass of New Belgium afterwards for more socializing.

If you don’t want to do the whole walk, hold down space on the grass where we’ll meet up when we’re done with the walk.

The starting point for the walk is outside and in front of the tap room’s main entrance. Be on the lookout for strollers!

Be sure to check the Homegrown Families Community Group Page Wednesday morning to confirm location and potential weather updates.

Stroll Amongst 30 Gardens on and Beside a Historic Bridge

Officially dedicated Oct. 19, 2013, the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge blooms on the historic 1925 Rocky Broad River bridge in Lake Lure, NC. When the bridge was closed to traffic in 2011, the Friends of the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge came together to create gardens on the 155 feet of the bridge and along a pathway at both ends of the three-arch span itself.
With an emphasis on native plants, the Friends mission is to create a “Gateway to Somewhere Beautiful” for the enjoyment of the public.
The Bridge and Gardens are always open, and there’s no admission charge to visit.
The vast majority of the gardens are wheelchair accessible.

Self Guided Walking Tour

Henderson County was formed from the southern section of vast Buncombe County in 1838. The need for a new county was based on the increased settlers and commerce traveling the Buncombe Turnpike, an important road that stretched from Greenville, SC to Greenville TN. A portion of the Turnpike became Main Street and, with land given by Judge Mitchell King, Col. James Brittain and John Johnson, Hendersonville was chartered in 1847. The town matured slowly during the middle decades of the nineteenth century attracting a small collection of merchants, lawyers, and other professionals as well as innkeepers whose clientele were travelers along the Buncombe Turnpike.

With the arrival of the railroad in 1879, Hendersonville entered the modern era. In the ensuing decades, Hendersonville took shape as a center for shipping farm produce and a major destination for a thriving summer tourist industry. In response to the needs of the growing populace, commercial ventures multiplied on and around Main Street replacing the earlier wood framed residential structures of Main Street with brick Neo-classical buildings.

Today Main Street sparkles with charm and vitality. Along with the serious issues of preservation, dozens of entertaining events, such as the NC Apple Festival, Garden Jubilee and the Rhythm & Brews Concerts, take place downtown. Preservation, adaptive reuse and restoration of historic structures allow the City to weave together the best of yesterday and the excitement of tomorrow to make Hendersonville a place for every generation.
