Appalachian Christmas

Let the nostalgic charm of Appalachian hospitality warm you this holiday season. Awaken the spirit of Christmas through live music, famed storytelling, hearty meals and moving worship. Visit the Appalachian Christmas Craft Show or area shops. Step back in time with turn-of-the-century Christmas décor at the exquisite Biltmore Estate and our newly remodeled Lambuth Inn.

Two and three-night packages are available and include lodging, meals and tickets to all performances. Individual concert tickets are also available for purchase – $18 general admission, $23 reserved seating, plus tax.

The schedule of events is below:

Thursday, December 12:
7:30 p.m. – “Rediscover Christmas” by Acts of Renewal
Enjoy a fresh perspective on Christmas through this funny and moving dramatic show that has captivated audiences across the country. Enjoy a series of vignettes beginning with a comedic tale of two blue collar shepherds who are in the right place at the right time on Christmas eve, followed by a moving rendition of the Annunciation, a tender funny story about ice fishing, a hilarious look at dealing with in-laws at Christmas, and a true story of an Appalachian single mom in need of a Christmas miracle. For the finale, you’ll hear the Christmas story like you’ve never heard it before! Entrance to this event is included only when you purchase the Appalachian Christmas package – no additional tickets will be sold.

Friday, December 13:
7:30 p.m. – Handel’s “Messiah”
A group of regional choristers, orchestra and the Lake Junaluska Singers will sing selections from Handel’s “Messiah” which tells of Christ’s birth. “Messiah” is a baroque-era music composition for orchestra, choir and soloists composed by George Frideric Handel from 1741-42. Notable musical selections include the Hallelujah Chorus, For Unto Us A Child Born, and Glory to God.

Saturday, December 14:
9 a.m.-4 p.m. – Appalachian Christmas Craft Show
The Appalachian Christmas craft show brings together vendors from across the Appalachian region to sell their unique and beautiful crafts. The show is hosted by the Junaluska Woman’s Club and all profits go toward charitable organizations. The show is open to the public.

2 p.m. – Summer Brooke & Mountain Faith Band
Since the year 2000, the Mountain Faith Band has performed their unique brand of Americana / Roots music to audiences from coast to coast. During Appalachian Christmas, Summer Brooke & Mountain Faith Band will perform songs from their popular Christmas album “The Sounds of Christmas.” Getting to know MFB is easy; their humility, kindness and love of community shines through on stage and casual conversation. Above all else, MFB is thankful for the opportunities God has provided them through music.

7:30 p.m. – Lake Junlauska Singers Christmas Concert
This 16-voice, award-winning ensemble was formed in 1954, and their legacy includes national and international performances for conferences, dignitaries and major events. Their music ranges from classical choral and contemporary works to gospel, folk, traditional hymns and musical theatre. During Appalachian Christmas, the Lake Junaluska Singers will focus on festive songs new and old that celebrate the joy of the season.

Sunday, December 15:
9:30 a.m. – Appalachian Christmas Worship Service
Conclude your Appalachian Christmas with a stirring Advent worship service in our beautiful and historic stone chapel on the edge of the lake.

Ms. Greer’s classroom includes three inquisitive out-of-the-box thinkers. Rosie Revere has big dreams of becoming the next great engineer. Iggy Peck has a relentless passion for architecture. And Ada Twist’s curiosity can drive her teacher crazy. This is a great show for illustrating a growth mindset in action.

Ingles’ Kids Pantry

Bringing awareness that many of our local children in Buncombe County are not getting the adequate food they need when they are not in school. They are going hungry on weekends, holidays, teacher staff days, snow days etc. Some schools have reported children pocketing food on Friday because they are worried about the weekend. Our great team is going to battle this problem on October 9th!
