National Take A Walk In The Park Day is the Saturday March 30.

Taking a walk at The Park at Flat Rock is an excellent way to clear one’s mind, re-energize and improve your health. When taking a walk in the park, all sorts of pleasant surprises could blossom.

Forest Wildflower Hike

Spring 2019 Programs

Call 828-692-0100 or email to reserve your spot! You MUST SIGN UP for these programs to participate. Category II, III NC EE certification and CEU credit available upon request. Signups accepted 30 days in advance!

  • UPDATE: March 15th, 2-4 PM PLUS NEW 10 AM-12PM at Holmes: Winter Tree ID Hike
    Due to popularity, a morning time has been added because the afternoon stroll is already at capacity.

    You are invited to join NC Forest Rangers at Holmes Educational State Forest for a two-hour winter tree identification stroll. Participants will discover how to identify ten trees by observing helpful features and characteristics including twigs, bark and branching patterns. Please dress appropriately for the weather, we will walk approximately 1.5 miles.

  • March 23rd, 10am-12 at Holmes: Forest Wildflower Hike
    Join NC Forest Rangers for a moderate, ¾ mile hike to observe and identify early spring wildflowers. Hiking through this diverse forest ecosystem we are likely to see plenty of Oconee Bells, Trout Lilies, Bloodroot and more! The program is limited to 20 people but if there is enough interest another hike may be offered. We will meet near the main kiosk in the parking lot at 10am. We recommend bringing comfortable shoes, a water bottle, a camera, and a wildflower field guide if you have one.

The Estes 2019 Black Light Show is almost here! It will be Thursday, April 11th – 5:30 & 6:30 shows! Free to the public, but we are accepting donations towards a MUSIC GARDEN in memory of Janie Belue (our beloved music teacher who passed away last summer).The picture is some highlights of last years show.

Herston Day Yard Sale and Hot Dog Lunch

In honor of our long time Board member, Community Center Caretaker, and friend, Herston Owenby. Herston recently retired as a UNCA groundskeeper and was looking forward to time with his children, grandchildren, and friends from his church and our community. However, some recent health problems have led to a diagnosis of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease). Please join us and help raise money for all the costs that come with a long illness.

8:00am to 2:00pm (rain or shine) – all Fairview Indoor Yard Sale and Hot Dog Lunch, continental breakfast also available. Space and one 8′ table available for $10 each; larger space and additional tables available for slight extra charge. Call 828-338-9005 and leave a message to reserve a space. What a great opportunity to make some money with your Spring cleaning, pick up a few of those items you’ve been looking for, get a great lunch, and help out a community friend.

Take a Walk in a Park Day

Put down your smart phone and join us for National Take A Walk in a Park Day. Our Naturalist will lead several guided hikes throughout the day, we’ll have Kids in Parks onsite sharing information about their Track Trail Program and Frugal Backpacker sharing tips about packing the perfect hiking bag and choosing the right hiking gear for your adventure.

A portion of Park admission on this day will go to the Kids in Parks program.

 

Event Schedule

11 am. – Event kicks off with family hike along Hickory Nut Falls trail

11am-2pm- Kids in Parks hosts informational session about Track Trail Program

11am-2pm- Frugal Backpacker “How to Pack a Day Pack” and “Hiking Pole Basics” demonstrations

1-2 pm- Hike with a Doctor from Rutherford Regional Health  along the Great Woodland Adventure trail

Baby Gym (up to 3yrs)

The WILDLY popular Baby Gym returns in December and January! FREE play time for the little ones ages 0-3 years features baby- and toddler- sized toys, tunnels, balls, climbing structures, and more active indoor fun.

Come for Baby Story Time at 10:30 in the morning or just show up for Baby Gym in Pack Memorial Library‘s Lord Auditorium. Baby Gym is every Tuesday, December 3-January 28, except for December 24.
