OptOutside at the WNC Nature Center
Avoid the Black Friday crowd, and enjoy some fresh air at the WNC Nature Center! Featuring 60 species of wildlife native to the Appalachian ecosystem, several engaging children’s play areas, a gem mining sluice, domestic livestock petting area, conservation gift shop, and much more!
We will be presenting three live animal education programs (11:30am, 1:30pm & 3:30pm). And we will host two free family-friendly wildlife walks (12:30pm & 2:30pm) on the Center’s grounds: pre-registration required at the Front Desk upon arrival.
Standard admission rates apply and, as always, admission is free for members of the Friends of the Nature Center!

Waynesville 3rd Annual Chili Cook-Off Stroll
The Galleries of Haywood County, in partnership with the Haywood County Arts Council, present the 3rd Annual Chili Cook Off Stroll hosted by The Jeweler’s Workbench taking place Saturday, January 18th from 12-4pm. The districts of Main Street, Hazelwood and Frog Level restaurants and merchants will compete in the Chili competition while guests, tourists and strollers will have the opportunity to sample chilis in each shop’s location and cast their votes.
Most shops open at 10am so check out the great specials and activities planned around the cook-off.
Wrist bands can be purchased the day of the event for $5 at The Jeweler’s Workbench, Blue Ridge Beer Hub or Cedar Hill Studio or any of the 3 shuttle stops. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Manna Backpack Program – Food for Children in partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Haywood County.
Park and Ride! A complimentary shuttle, provided by Pigeon River Outfitters will pick up guests about every 15 minutes from one of the three “Chili Recovery Stations” (shuttle stops) .

Looking for a great place for your child to spend their day while school is out for for Martin Luther King Jr Day? Look no further. We are excited to offer two days of dance, games, crafts and fun in a safe, playful environment. Sign up for one day, or both.
Our professional instructors will guide the kids in alternating activities suited to the various age groups, leaving time for free play. Activities that promote an understanding of King’s guiding principles will be included throughout the day. Older students are welcome to bring their homework, and quiet space will be reserved for them to get it done.

The Clans have been called, the fires have been lit and the pipes sing the song of Scotland. Please join the Incipient Canton of Stormwall as they host the Hawkwood Baronial Birthday XIV, in a Scottish Highland gathering where warriors will show their skill and strength in Heavy Weapons, Rapier, Archery, Thrown Weapons and a complete Equestrian competition in a lighted and covered arena to include Joust, Cabor Toss, the might of the Stones Throw and the Scottish Tug of War to determine the final champion as there can be ” Only One”. So gather those tartans and wear your plaid with pride. The Highlanders have arrived.

The Rock and Roll Playhouse family concerts are a unique and interactive shows set in remarkable venues. Our 60-minute family-concerts focus on specific eras, artists, and genres of music. During each fun-filled show, children explore live music, movement, and collaborative creativity. Young talents gain knowledge and develop their musical skills through laughter and imagination. We invite the whole family to join us and play as we aim to build creativity in children through the beat of rock ‘n’ roll.
