Asheville’s total eclipse portion of the event, as the Moon enters Earth’s full shadow, or “umbra,” begins Sunday evening at 11:41 p.m. Its greatest intensity, when the lunar disk glows in the deepest shades of red and orange, occurs just after midnight, at 12:12 a.m.
The total eclipse ends around 12:43 a.m. Monday morning, though the subtle partial eclipse phase will be visible until 1:51 a.m.
We encourage you to stay up late Sunday and enjoy this “Blood Moon!”
