Second Saturday Market

Folkmoot’s Second Saturday Markets continue March 9 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. inside the Folkmoot Friendship Center Cafeteria (112 Virginia Ave, Waynesville). A gathering place for friends of all ages, markets feature vendors, live music, ballroom dance lessons for $5, and a homemade meal for $10. Beer and wine are available for purchase and tables will be set up for participants to play board and card games that they bring from home. There is no entry fee for Second Saturday Markets. For more information or to become a vendor, please call the Folkmoot office at 828-452-2997.

Folkmoot’s year-round programming initiatives have been made possible by the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina and the Cherokee Preservation Foundation.

Veterans Showcase

The 2018 Veterans Showcase aims to celebrate the participants and instructors of the Arts & Wellness for Veterans Program.

Don’t miss the moving musical performances, readings from veterans in the creative writing & poetry classes, and demonstrations in ceramics.

In addition, we will be joined by Black Box Dance Theatre, a company from Raleigh that brings a new and unique vision to dance. In a powerful performance called Move to Action led by veteran, composer, and dance collaborator, Alfredo Hurtado, the troupe will portray Hurtado’s poignant story.

Stage Production: ‘Matilda the Musical’

Performed by students in our Tanglewood Youth Theatre class.

Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, who has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night the Addams host a dinner for Wednesday’s ‘normal’ boyfriend and his parents. A shorter version of the Broadway musical, performed by students ages 12-17 in our Tanglewood Youth Production Class.

Author Event: Fly Possum Fly in Asheville, NC!

Sick reindeer can’t stop Santa from delivering presents, when magical possums come to the rescue in “Fly Possum Fly,” the new Christmas storybook written and illustrated by singer/songwriter Grant Maloy Smith. Based on a song that Grant recorded with teen country music sensation EmiSunshine, “Fly Possum Fly” is perfect for ages 3-10. Join Grant for a story time and solo musical performance, presented by Spellbound Children’s Bookshop in Asheville, North Carolina, on Friday, November 9! (NOTE: This event will take place at the The Hop Ice Cream Cafe at Merrimon Square, 640 Merrimon Avenue, while Spellbound’s new store is under construction.
