Homework Diner Kickoff & Superintendent Search Community Forum

The Board of Education will also be hosting an input forum in conjunction with Asheville City Schools’ first Homework Diner of the 2019-2020 school year. It will take place on Tuesday, September 24th at Asheville Middle School. A meal will be served from 5:00 – 6:00 PM in AMS’s Cafeteria, and, while our students are receiving homework help from qualified tutors, our final Superintendent Search Community Forum will take place in the school media center from 6:00 – 7:00 PM.

We are looking forward to meeting with you and receiving your input as we look to hire the best, long-term fit for our students, staff members, families and community.

Questions that will be discussed during the Superintendent Search Community Forums include:
-Why is it important for you to be here?
-If you had 30 minutes to spend one-on-one with a superintendent candidate, what three questions would you like to ask them?
-Ranking each item from 1 – 10, which characteristics are most important to you?
-Classroom and administrative experience
-Trusted by the community and staff
-Long-term commitment to the district and our community
-Visible throughout the district
-Community knowledge that informs equity
decision/programs
-Instructional leadership
-Relationship builder with key stakeholders
-Keen communication skills as both a listener and
spokesperson
-Experience in a district/community with similar
demographics
-User of both successes and failures to grow as a leader

The Flat Rock Playhouse Garden Plant Sale

Sept 21st Friday 9.00am -4pm
Sept 22th – Saturday 9.00am -1pm
The volunteers responsible for the creation, design and maintenance of The Flat Rock Playhouse gardens, divide the plants once a year and use the money from this sale to enhance the gardens for yet another year of beauty. This year there will be over 60 varieties of plants.
There will also be a Master Gardener ‘Ask- Me- A- Question’ tent, which is the perfect opportunity to seek garden answers for all those questions as well as a tree specialist who will be with us at the beginning of Friday morning till all our questions are answered.
We will also have hand-crafted garden signs, Mason bee-house habitats, Harry Lauder walking stick twigs, everlasting stakes (made out of vinyl albums), seeds and spring flowering bulbs to order including the fabulous allium schubertii.
Of course, it’s also the perfect time to take a walk around the gardens, take a book from the Little Free Library, smile at the recent goats who have been spotted in the gardens and take a photo of yourself with our founder, Robroy Farquhar, the original Vagabond that now stands in the gardens as do his dog, Boots and cat, Snodgrass.
Come support your local North Carolina State Theatre gardens.
