Stuffed Animal Story TIme!

Stuffed Animal Story Time at The Strand Friday, Aug 17 and Monday, Aug 20 at 1:00pm

Bring your favorite stuffed animal friend for a very special Haywood County Public Library story time featuring Winnie the Pooh on Fri, Aug 17 and Mon, Aug 20 from 12-12:45pm at The Strand Theater. The Friends of the Library presents this free event. Participants receive a free popcorn. All ages welcome.
Following the Stuffed animal story-times The Strand Theater will have a matinee showing of ‘Christopher Robin’ at 1:00pm. Stuffed Animal Story time is free, matinee movie tickets are $5.50 online at 38main.com or at the box office.

3D Printing Workshop (8+yrs)

Curious about 3d Printing? What to feel like an expert on this amazing technology in only 1.5 hours? Join us in the AMOS STEM lab for a workshop on how to design objects using computer aided design tools such as TinkerCad. In our first hour we will be getting used to the tools of design, hardware and workflow. Our second hour will be spent printing prototypes of your designs on one of our printers to take home and impress your friends and family with. This is a bring your own computer course, but computers are available to those who need them. This workshop is open to ages 8 and up.

Annual TIPtug Fire Truck Pull and Health & Safety Fair

This is an annual family-friendly fundraiser to benefit Trauma Intervention Program of Western North Carolina sponsored by Asheville Fire Department and Asheville Police Department.

What is a fire truck pull? Teams of up to twelve people compete for the fastest time pulling a fully-loaded 33,000 pound fire truck 100 feet. Put together a team from your workplace or gym and challenge the current champion team from Asheville Police Department! There will also be police and fire vehicles to explore, vendor booths, a raffle, music, DJ and food trucks.

FREE Backpacks & School Supplies

Free backpacks are being distributed at the State Farm – Chad McMahon office August 15-17 from 8:30am-5:00pm.

This year, State Farm is distributing backpacks containing essential school supplies to any kids that could benefit and have a need for assistance in getting supplies.

The backpacks will be distributed between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., from Aug. 15 – 17.

The backpacks that are being distributed will assist school kids with a few items they will need. Included items will be pencils, a box of colored pencils, a two pocket folder, a composition book and some tissue.

Backpacks are available at 97 Lee Street in Waynesville. For more information, call 452-0567.

Dillard’s Kid’s Day

Event: Located in Kid’s department (2nd story) in Men’s Dillard’s, and they will also be accepting donations for Eblen Tools for Schools.

Join Dillard’s at Asheville Mall for Kid’s Day on Saturday, August 11th from 12pm-4pm.

There will be coloring contests, hopscotch, tic tac toe games, face painting and drawings for a $500 Polo gift card, a Nike backpack full of supplies, or a $200 flapdoodle gift card.

An Evening with Jennifer Barnhart (teens & adults)

One of our very favorite people will be visiting Attic Salt on August 24th! Jennifer Barnhart from the Original Broadway Cast of Avenue Q, Sesame Street, Between the Lions and Julie’s Greenroom will spend a talkback-style evening with you. She’s got the inside scoop about real-life on Broadway, TV and behind your favorite puppets. Bring your questions and warm-up your hands for a bit of impromptu puppetry!
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.
