Summer of Noir Film Series (Teens 6th-12th Grade and Adults)

July 10th: The Maltese Falcon … The third of four free film screenings and discussions on the highly influential Film Noir genre. Events are hosted by North Carolina Film Critics Association member James Rosario, who will introduce each film. Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, Sydney Greenstreet, and Peter Lorre star in John Huston’s Noir classic, based on the novel by Dashiell Hammett. Private detective Sam Spade (Bogart) finds himself pursued by dangerous criminals (Lorre and Greenstreet) after taking on a secretive new client (Astor). A valuable statuette is missing, with each party desperate to find it. The stakes are high as the web of crime and conspiracy is revealed. Who will claim the Maltese Falcon?

See What’s Poppin’ – Pop Up Shop

Join us for an afternoon of fun and a chance to meet some of our featured craftsman and artists. Browse around and learn the stories behind the unique arts and crafts that you can find in our store. The vendors will be bringing a selection of all of the items that they make.

For this month’s See What’s Poppin’, we have quite the lineup prepared for you! Meet Pat Van West, a ceramic artist that creates firecracker vases, porcupine toothpick holders, owl pots (pictured above), and much more! We also have Sabrina Miller, who is a Jill of all trades. She has painted pots with begonias, jewelry, quilted kitchen towels, and other unique items. Janet Bennett will be here and she is the designer behind the beautiful purses you may see hanging around our shelves. She also makes eye glass holders, walker bags, and kids purses. Mindi Friedwald, local artist and author will be in attendance with her lovely items. She has books available for purchase as well as her unique animal wisdom cards, that can be purchased directly or made just for you! We will be adding more craftsman to the lineup, so check our Facebook event for a full selection before the event.
