Buncombe County Summer Reading Program (rising high school seniors or younger)
The program runs June 1-Aug. 31. It’s open to Buncombe County Library Card holders who are rising high school seniors or younger.
Get a stamp card and collect a stamp each time you visit the library to check out a book, attend an event, or any other reason you visit the library. After you have four stamps you can claim your reward! Visit any library branch, turn in your card, and get a free book from the Summer Reading crate featuring a variety of reading levels and books in Spanish.
Keep reading and visiting the library.
It’s that simple to turn your regular library visits into prizes. If you have any questions about the Summer Reading Program, please contact your local library branch.
Buncombe County Libraries have more than just books. Our libraries are community hubs where citizens of all ages can find services, resources, amazing programs, and more. Find a library in your community where you can read, learn, and discover. Visit the Buncombe County Public Libraries website to get engaged and learn more.
Join us at Libraries Rock – Summer Library Festival, Saturday June 2 as we kick off the program!

FREE Pre-Participation Physical Exams (Sports Physicals)
On Thursday, May 24 the McDowell County Schools and Mission Hospital McDowell are partnering to offer free sports physicals at McDowell High School. The exams will begin at 2:30 p.m. and the doors will close at 5:30 p.m. Any rising 6th-12th grade student planning to participate in school sports at East Middle, West Middle, or McDowell High School must undergo a state-mandated physical prior to trying out for a sport.
These physicals are good for one calendar year, so getting this done now will cover all 2018-2019 athletic seasons.
Parents are encouraged to attend to address additional questions the medical team may have during the exam.

United for Foster Care Event/Meeting
Please say YES!
Children in foster care have been removed from their families because of neglect and abuse. These children need a loving family who will walk with them during a time of crisis and welcome them unconditionally into a temporary, caring home.
An approved foster family provides safety, nurturance and day-to-day care for the child placed in their care until the child can be reunified with his/her birth family, be placed with a kinship or adoptive family or emancipated.
Join us on June 12th at 6pm to learn about the Bair Foundation ministry, what it takes to be a foster parent, or how your church can partner with our ministry. Call Rob at 828-350-5197 or request a packet at: https://fpi.bair.org/Inquiry.aspx?Office_ID=4
