Take a short hike into the forest and dis- cover the various habitats that make our mountains such an ideal place for our local wildlife to live. Ages 8–13.

May 6 & May 13 … Compass

Whether you are on a hunt, out fishing, or exploring the forest you need to know how to navigate your way in the world. Learn the fundamentals of the compass. Ages 8–13.

June 3 & June 17 … Canids

This group includes wolves, coyotes, and foxes. Find out about teeth, paws, claws, and other qualities that make this group great. Ages 8–13.

Nature Nuts Series (4-7yrs)

March 11 & March 20 … Racoons

Do racoons really wash their food? What do you call their young? Learn the answers to these questions and much more as we learn about the fascinating world of racoons. Ages 4–7.

April 15 & April 29 … Raising Trouts

Learn about the Bobby N. Setzer trout hatchery operations, participate in an out- door activity that simulates trout life, and hand feed the fish! Ages 4–7.

May 6 & May 13 … Stream Investigation

Explore the Davidson River in search of aquatic macro invertebrates. We will deter- mine the water quality of the river and learn how these macros play such an important role in the ecosystem. Ages 4–7.

June 3 & June 17 … Frogs & Toads 

What’s the difference between a frog and a toad? What do they like to eat? How are they important to our ecosystems? Learn the answers to these and many more ques- tions as we explore the fascinating world of frogs and toads. Ages 4–7.

Greater Asheville Science-For-All Bookclub

Our current book selections are “Lab Girl” by Hope Jahren and our “deeper dive” book is “Naturalist” by Edward O. Wilson. Participants can select either book, we break up into smaller discussion groups during our meetings. Both books are available at Malaprops Bookstore in Asheville. You can sign up at our Facebook page at “Greater Asheville Science-For-All Bookclub” under events, send an email to our acting coordinator, Rachel Muir at dr.nature@gmail.com, or just come — all are welcome! Additional details about our club can be found on our Facebook page and a website is under construction. Refreshments will be served — see you there.
