Eclipse Viewing Party

Buncombe County Schools is hosting eclipse viewing parties at Charles D. Owen High School, T. C. Roberson High School, and North Buncombe High School on August 21 from Noon to 3. There will be family friendly activities and a safe location to enjoy the eclipse!

Like “miniature versions” of the downtown party, the three satellite events will start at noon and run to 3 p.m. They are all free, open to the public, and will most likely take place at the football fields, where people can spread out picnic blankets and each person will get a free pair of solar eclipse viewing glasses until supplies run out. But leave the pets at home.

Annual West Asheville Garden Stroll

Have fun, meet neighbors, learn how to raise veggies and chickens, celebrate our treasured trees, see the diverse sanctuaries people have made in West Asheville, and take a tree selfie! What a good combo for a Saturday in September!

On 9/14/2019, the 11th annual West Asheville Garden Stroll (WAGS) will showcase gardens clustered along Virginia Ave., Drake St., Hudson St., Langwell Ave., Nebraska Ave., State St., & Pennsylvania Ave. For those walking or biking the Stroll, this year’s Stroll is perhaps the most compact ever. The Stroll runs from 11am-4pm, with a special 10:30am kickoff ceremony at the Rainbow Community School (60 State Street, 28806). The Garden Stroll is FREE and ALL are welcome to join in this community event.

Forest School Foundation FUNdraiser

Last year a group of us started a 501(c)3 non-profit called The Forest School Foundation. Our mission is to transform early childhood education and our world by making nature-based schools widely available to all children.

The first project of our Foundation is Asheville Forest School, which is about to start our first full year of classes at our new West Asheville site. This is the Foundation’s first fundraiser.

We welcome you to join us for a fun evening in support of “forest schools for all”!

If you wish to contribute but can’t attend you may do so via PayPal here:
http://www.ashevilleforestschool.org/donate

We will have fun activities for the kids, games, music, yummy vegan food and drinks for sale, a silent auction, and a question and answer session for parents with Paul Beich, our director and Sara Henry, our lead teacher.

Please consider donating goods or services to the silent auction…thank you!!

Apple Picking

Open Daily, 9:00am-6:00pm

Changes in weather can affect ripening times and demand for certain varities can impact supply. Although we update our picking schedule weekly (and more often if needed), if you are making the trip for a particular variety and are concerned about availability please call the fruit stand to verify. We receive numerous questions on our Facebook page asking if certain varieties are available but due to the volume of questions, we are not able to respond to these individually. .

Drop-In Kung Fu Class (5-7yrs)

Tuesdays, 3:45pm-4:30pm

In this class we work on hand-eye-foot coordination through the different animal styles of Kung Fu. Students learn Animal Hand Shapes, a short form that emphasizes whole body movement, a focused set of movements from the animal style of the month, hitting a target, coordination exercises, awareness exercises, and listening exercises, as well as sitting and standing meditation.
We only have spaces for 12 students, so it is a good idea to reserve a space in advance.
