Beer City Behavior – Habitat Tavern & Commons

You and your pup are invited to join us as we learn how to train and entertain our furry friends at the same time!

A two mile walk doesn’t tire your dog? Too fearful to play? Elliot Weiner, PhD, CPDT-KA and Asheville Humane Society volunteer will be with us this Saturday from 3-5pm to teach and discuss some techniques and games that will make your dog think while also training and entertaining him/her. Mental exercise keeps our dogs from going too far up the arousal scale and making bad decisions. Elliot will teach you and your dog how to think and have fun. Grab a beer, and spend the first hour with him thinking and playing, and stick around for additional questions/play time!

All dogs who are comfortable in this type of social setting are welcome to join. Please note, if your dog does not like to be around large groups of people and dogs, please leave them at home where they will be more comfortable. The trainer will be happy to give you some tips and tricks of things you can do in your home to help with any behavior problems. Please have a leash on hand for entering and leaving this event as well, as we like to keep our patrons and pups happy and safe at all times!

Curious George Visits! (Costume Character)

To celebrate Curiosity Day, Curious George will be here to meet and greet young fans, plus we’ll have fun activities based on his books. Photos are very welcome. (Please tag us if you share on social media!)

We expect this to be a very popular event, so a word of advice: Not everyone has to be here at 3:00 on the dot–there will be less time spent standing in line with restless little ones if arrivals are staggered a bit. Curious George will be here until 5:00! Just be sure you arrive no later than 4:30.

A $5 family ticket is required for this event. One ticket covers admission for one adult and up to three kids. AND you can print out your ticket (or just show it on your mobile device) and redeem it at the sales counter for $5 off any in-stock purchase of $5 or more the day of the event!

All ages welcome.

Summer Camp (2-12yrs)

All day adventures. All summer long.®

At Kiddie Academy,® we aim to make your child’s summer as educational as it is fun. Our CampVenturesSM program and curriculum do exactly that through themed events, activities and trips. From preschool through elementary school, your child will enjoy playing developmentally appropriate games. Throughout the summer we reinforce what your child has learned in school. With CampVentures, your child’s ordinary summer vacation is transformed into a fun and strong foundation for the future.

Life Essentials® is Kiddie Academy’s proprietary, developmentally appropriate curriculum and supporting programs, methods, activities and techniques that help better prepare children for life. Life Essentials gives your child a happier, healthier, more well-rounded foundation for the future. In other words, what children learn at Kiddie Academy will help to prepare them for school and for life.

Kiddie Academy’s CampVentures turns your child’s ordinary summer vacation into a summer of exploration. Our program inspires imagination through exciting activities, field trips and special visitors, while balancing the individual needs and interests of each child in our care. CampVentures awakens a world of fun, learning and friendships for your child.

CampVentures provides age appropriate activities:

2-year-old programs: Kiddie Academy knows that even our smallest campers want to have fun exploring! Our activities foster your child’s creativity and build on skills he or she already knows, while recognizing the need for young children to use their bodies as they explore new skills. The youngest CampVentures participants will enjoy many hands-on activities relating to familiar themes: My Neighbors and Me, Active Me!, Tell Me a Story, Laugh With Me, Show Me, and I’m Going on Vacation. Teachers use fingerplays, songs, movement activities and quality children’s literature – including books that promote sign language and Spanish – to enrich the summer camp experience for our 2-year-olds.

3- and 4-year-old programs: Kiddie Academy preschoolers take an in-depth look at real-world topics that are relevant to them, such as Boats or Airplanes, Ice Cream or Pizza, Insects or Flowers, or Summer Sports or Camping. Children participate in activities focusing on language arts, math, science, technology, creative arts, drama, music, movement and character education throughout each theme, and extend their learning through the summer months.

The Project Approach is a great way to involve children in directing their own learning, and investigating topics that they help to choose. Teachers have flexibility and are encouraged to follow the children’s lead as they plan fun and interesting activities for summer learning.

5-year-old and School-aged programs: CampVentures for older campers takes a project approach, which empowers children to direct their learning based on their interests through authentic experiments and activities. Teachers prompt children to use their imaginations, create their own solutions, and investigate themes as they facilitate and guide the learning process. The children arrange a culminating event or project that not only displays their work but celebrates their achievements.

Throughout the summer, the children may plant a garden, perform a play, organize a museum, or plan a sports or water day. The possibilities are endless when the children become involved in making decisions about their learning!

In CampVentures , children do so much more than play – our campers create, explore, construct, design, investigate and invent. We invite you and your child to discover a summer full of adventure at Kiddie Academy!
