Asheville Outdoor Cinema presents your 2017 Summer Movie Series
We’ve been working with the City of Asheville to secure the Carrier Park Ballfield throughout the summer for Asheville’s ultimate outdoor entertainment experiences.
Giant jenga, giant cornhole, giant Connect 4, frisbee golf, live music and performers, beer and wine, local food trucks, and classic major motion picture screenings.
TIME:
Gates open at 6:30, Music 7:30, Movie 9pm.
FOOD/DRINK:
Two of Asheville’s best purveyors of food will be onsite to charm your taste buds. Expect a lemonade stand, popcorn and ice cream to top it off. Some of your favorite local beers will be on tap, as well as red and white wine.
ENTRANCE:
The entrance is located inside Carrier Park, on the west side of the park. You may bike in or park for free at Carrier Park parking lot.
SEATING/CHAIRS:
The location is a grassy outfield of the ballfield. Pillows, cushions and blankets are preferred, though low chairs with low backs are allowed. If you have a tall chair (like a lawn chair or camping style chair more than 6 inches off the ground) you will be required to sit outside the center of the venue, which is marked with signs on both the left & right side of the venue. There is ample room for chairs, so please don’t block the view of the person(s) behind you.
DOGS:
We don’t know yet. We’re waiting for the City to let us know… stay tuned – we’ll post on our FB as soon as we know about the furries.
SPONSOR PARTNER:
We’re teaming up with Asheville’s Blue Ridge Pride to help us with the events. Check out BlueRidgePride.org to learn more.

June 19 – Kokedama … (Japanese hanging moss garden). Kokedama directly translated to English means “moss ball”. Traditionally it is a ball of soil, covered with moss, on which a plant grows. These plants are visually stunning and easy to maintain. You can make one to put on a shelf or one to hang up! We will have enough supplies for everyone to make one Kokedama moss garden complete with one small plant.
July 3rd: Himmeli Air Plant Holders … The word ‘Himmeli’ is from German descent and means ‘sky’ or ‘heaven.’ Himmeli is a type of mobile made of small pipes or straws and wire. Traditionally they have been used in Nordic countries as Christmas decorations. We will have enough copper pipe and wire to make one air plant holder complete with one air plant. If you wish to make more, we will have extra colored plastic straws and wire available.
July 17th: Concrete Succulent Planters … In this workshop we will make our own concrete planter molds using cardboard and tape or recycled materials. There will be enough materials for everyone to make one concrete planter complete with a small succulent plant.
July 31st: Drift Wood Planter with Air Plants … In this workshop we will be gluing living air plants and dried moss and lichen onto drift wood to make beautiful living planters. Air plants will be permanently attached to driftwood and can be watered using a spray bottle. There are enough supplies for everyone to make one driftwood planter containing two air plants.
August 14 – Flower Crowns … In this workshop we will use dried flowers, wire, and ribbon to create flower crowns that will never wilt! We will have enough materials for everyone to make one flower crown per person.
