Fiber Weekend

On Saturday May 12, members of the Guild will gather to demonstrate the wide array of techniques using fiber. This free event will be held in the Folk Art Center’s auditorium from 10am until 4pm.

In addition to the fiber, will be locally made barbecue and fixins’ from Farmhouse BBQ throughout the day on Saturday.

The annual Fiber Wearable Fashion Show will be held on Sunday, May 13 at both 1pm and 3pm. In its 20th year it will continue to honor fiber wearables from a selected pool of artists within the Guild. With 21 years of membership in the organization, weaver Liz Spear will be emceeing.

Textile arts are known for building a sense of community, and to celebrate this, the Guild invites visitors to Fiber Weekend to bring their own handwork, whether it be crochet, embroidery or spinning. Weather permitting we would like to fill the hill behind the Folk Art Center auditorium with people engaged in fiber arts. Bring a blanket and enjoy a spring afternoon of craft.

Incubator Series Presents: Pete & Pickles, a staged reading

Staged reading. Based on the children’s book by Berkeley Breathed, and adapted for the stage by Katie Jones, Pete & Pickles is about Pete, a perfectly practical, predictable, pig, who lives an uncomplicated, solitary life… until he unexpectedly rescues a runaway circus elephant, named Pickles. Pickles is spontaneous, imaginative and beautifies everything in her path. Before Pete realizes it, his life is changed forever, and he finds himself swan-diving off of Niagara Falls, skiing down the Matterhorn, and singing love songs on the canals of Venice. This story is about the healing power of imagination and storytelling, and the beauty of unexpected friendships.

Reservations recommended, but not required. Admission is pay-what-you-can, with a suggestion of $10, collected at the door. All proceeds support new, live theater.

Email: info@ashevillecreativearts.org to make your reservation today.

Directed by Jesse Richardson-Bull
Developed with members of the Wishbone Theatre Collective
With: Craig Holcombe, Jenni Robinson, Julia Cunningham, Marc Cameron, and Tate Albert

About the Series:
Under the guidance of ACA Resident Artists, the INCUBATOR series provides rehearsal and performance space, dramaturgical and artistic support, including (as necessary) direction, casting, musical composition, puppetry, and marketing.
