30 Trees in 30 Days Kick Off

The City of Asheville Parks & Recreation Department, in partnership with Asheville GreenWorks, has launched a new initiative to plant trees at all seventy-four city owned recreation facilities over the course of the next three years. The initiative is aimed at celebrating how trees enhance our environment and our community. Trees of all different varieties will be planted with a goal of incorporating trees appropriate to the location.

To kick off the initiative the department is excited to announce the “30 Trees in 30 Days” program. Beginning at 4:00 p.m. on March 28 at the Shiloh Complex (121 Shiloh Road) members of the Parks & Recreation Department, volunteers with Asheville GreenWorks and community members will gather to plant the first three trees. Additional events will be held at the Grant Center, Carrier Park, Aston Park, Riverside Cemetery and Recreation Park throughout the month of April. The program will culminate on Arbor Day, April 28.

Trash pick up puppet parade (please wear clashing outfit)

This is going to be SUPER FUN and will make our beautiful city even more beautifuler. Lol. Please meet in Prichard park dressed in your most clashing patterned outfit (think stripes, plaid, paisley, polkadots, etc.) and we will parade through town together and pick up trash using super awesome trash puppets. (this way we don’t have to touch garbage directly with our hands, and it makes picking up trash more fun !) This event is free and will make you feel amazing, guaranteed! Some puppets provided, but please BYOP if possible. (bedazzling an oven mitt is definitely an option, as well as making your own puppet out of an old sock)

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

March 17-19, 2017

Friday at 7:30 pm; Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 pm

Performed by our Youth Production Class and at the Carol Belk Theatre at UNC Asheville.

This new dramatization of C.S. Lewis’ classic, set in the land of Narnia, faithfully recreates the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, and his struggle with the White Witch, and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander from an old wardrobe into an exciting and never-to-be-forgotten world. This story of love, faith, courage and giving, with its triumph of good over evil, is a true celebration of life.

Directed by Bradshaw Call * Tickets are $6.00 * Performed for kids by kids!
