Fundamental Engineering Camp (8-12yrs)

Learn the basics of engineering through hands on, interactive pro- jects and activities. Work alongside local engineers to develop proto- types and complete engineering challenges throughout the week. Participants will gain a fundamental understanding of engineering while exploring different specialties as they design, build, test and redesign their creations. Camp will be at the Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Center.

July 10-July 14, 9am-5pm.
Early drop-off available between 8:30-9am for an additional $10
$25 for youth enrolled in Parks and Recreation afterschool programs, Summer Playground Program or Outdoor Camp Program.

Comic Book Camp (8-12yrs)

Explore the world of comics, car- tooning, and creating stories and adventures. Participants will focus on comics as an art form. Youth will learn about story development through creative games and activi- ties, and spend the week develop- ing their own comic adventures. Therapeutic Recreation Summer Teen Camp (13-18yrs and/or high school graduation)

A recreation program developed in collaboration with FIRST, this camp is for teens with mild to moderate cognitive or develop- mental delays who meet eligibility requirements. Daily activities in- clude group games, arts and crafts, nature exploration, special events and field trips. Camp will be held at West Asheville Recreation Center.

Asheville Doll Show

Come join in the fun and laughter of our annual event for children and adults of all ages. Located in the wonderful Boone Building at the Western North Carolina Ag Center, this year brings Beautiful Antique Dolls, Classic and Vintage Dolls and Toys, Compositions, Modern dolls, Original Art Dolls, Hand crafted Dolls, Miniatures, Teddy Bears, Doll furniture, clothes, accessories and much, much more. Planned: doll appraisals and doll restringing on site. Door prizes will be available.

8th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration at Short Street Cakes!

Please join Short Street Cakes as we celebrate our 8th anniversary with a Mardi Gras party! Mardi Gras also marks the first anniversary for the Cake Shop under the new ownership of Olga Jiménez. Happy Anniversary Olga! Happy Birthday Short Street Cakes!

The celebration takes place from 5-8pm at 225 Haywood Road, with a raffle, free Mardi Gras beads, a dance party with DJ Abu Disarray, cake and cocktails. Raffle proceeds benefit The Family Resource Center at Emma (FRCE). FRCE is located on the campus of Emma Elementary School in the Emma Community. The FRCE improves Emma community’s families’ financial stability by providing emergency assistance through a food pantry, a clothing closet, emergency financial assistance for rent and utilities, parenting classes and holiday assistance.

Handmade, all-natural, traditional Southern King Cakes, complete with a baby trinket hidden inside, are also available at the Cake Shop through Mardi Gras (Tuesday, February 28th). The cost is $28 for a Medium sized cake (serves 15) and $48 for a large (serves 30).
