Polar Plunge Benefiting Kids in the Creek & Education Programs

Haywood Waterways and Lake Junaluska Assembly are hosting the “5th Annual Polar Plunge Benefit-t-t-ting Kids in the Creek and Environmental Education” on “Super Bowl” Saturday, February 4, 2017. The Plunge will be at the Lake Junaluska Assembly beach (11 Memory Lane, Lake Junaluska, by the pool); registration begins at 10:00 am and festivities start at 11:30.

There will be great prizes for the top 3: Individual Fundraisers, School Team Fundraisers, Community Team Fundraisers, and Best Costumes. All Plungers receive a FREE t-shirt to commemorate their courage. All Plungers and spectators get a FREE lunch and a chance to win one of many great door prizes.

We are seeking as many valiant souls as possible to brave the frigid waters of Lake Junaluska and help raise money for our premier education event, one that teachers call “extremely valuable for teaching about water quality” and students call “cool”. We’ll save you the long details but we do have data that demonstrate Kids in the Creek is a very effective tool for increasing knowledge about water and bringing out environmentally-responsible behaviors in the kids.

Come join us so you can say you plunged in Lake Junaluska in the middle of winter. The depth of plunge is a personal choice – from a dip of the toe to a full immersion jump off the dock. All ages welcome, though kids should definitely get parent’s permission (parents are going to have to sign the liability waiver anyway). Shorts and shoes are mandatory, costumes are encouraged.

The cost is $25 or FREE by raising sponsorships ($10 for under age 18). Register by “Joining the Team” here on Crowdrise, then “Donate” your $25/$10 (all donations are tax deductible), or better yet, send the link to all your family, friends, coworkers, and anyone else you can think of to sponsor you ($1, $5, $25, everything counts) and have a chance for one of the top fundraiser prizes.

Want to support the cause off-line? Contact Haywood Waterways for a paper copy of the “Sponsorship, Donation, and Registration Packet” (828-476-4667, info@haywoodwaterways.org).

The Assembly will have bonfires going to help folks warm up as well as indoor changing and eating facilities. Since it is a “Polar” Plunge, the event will happen rain or shine!

Haywood Waterways Association is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law (Tax ID: 56-2108874). Financial information and a copy of our license is available from the State Solicitation Licensing Branch at 919-807-2214; the license is not an endorsement by the State.

Forward Together Day Asheville

We are planning, with friends around the country, to gather in our respective capitals and larger metropolitan areas on January 20th, 2017. Together we will take a stand on behalf of common decency.
The event will be a “PRO” event.
Pro- LGBTQ+, people of color, women, people with disabilities, people of all faiths/religions or none, our environment, our civil liberties, our humanity.
The march / sit-in will stand as a peaceful statement that we are the people that have been attacked and their allies, and we will not be intimidated.
This day is not about politics. This day is about humanity. This day is about inclusion, love, tolerance, and peace. This day is about being heard. We WILL be heard. We will NOT be marginalized. Human rights are for every American and we will ensure every American has the same rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This day is not about politics. We will move forward together on this day and every day. We WILL be heard.
