‘It’s YOUR Vision’ workshop

Play a key role in shaping future development of the city and your neighborhood. City officials will be holding workshops across Asheville to get input from residents on issues ranging from where to put affordable housing to how new buildings should look. That input will be used in updating the city’s comprehensive plan, called, “Living Asheville.” “Once completed, the comprehensive plan document will guide city staff and elected officials as to what the community wants for Asheville’s future.”

Here are the meeting times and dates:

December 6

  • North Asheville Library, 1030 Merrimon Ave., 12:30-2:30 p.m.
  • West Asheville Library, 942 Haywood Road, 4-6 p.m.
  • Central Asheville opportunity at the Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Center, 285 Livingston St., 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Prayer with song and drum for Standing Rock

The US Army has pledged to remove the camp of Water Protectors and their vigil of prayer from where they have been praying to stop the pipeline from going under the missouri river threatening the reservation water supply and the water of everyone downstream.. Those of us unable to go to north dekota to support their prayer can come out to pray in support with druming and sacred songs.

Santa is making a list and checking it twice!  Be sure you are on his list by visiting with Santa at B.B. Barns on Saturday, December 3rd.  Be sure to bring your camera for family and pet photos!

Santa will also have Candy Canes and Reindeer Treats (mini carrots) for the children!

2016 Community Giveback

Warriors at Home is who we have decided to sponsor this year. Warriors at Home is a veteran ran organization designed to help other vets and their families overcome the hurdles of life as a military veteran. What better group to sponsor, one that is helping the men and women that are putting their lives on the line to protect us.

Let’s have a red, white, and blue Christmas. We have a DJ lined up to provide music and we are asking businesses to join with us in giving back by donating and being present at the event.

There will be soup, sandwiches, dessert, and drinks ($5.00 a plate) and a $2.00 raffle.

Flapjacks for Families

For many of us, the holiday season means cherished memories with family, gift giving and festive food. However, for families economically challenged, the holidays can be especially tough. Funds and toys collected at Flapjacks for Families will mean a brighter season for those less fortunate. Enjoy pancakes, bacon, juice and coffee all the while making the holidays joyous for those in need.

The Irene Wortham Learning Center provides high quality education and care for children ages six-weeks to pre-k, with and without developmental challenges. The Center currently serves more than 80 children, with 95% living at or below the poverty level. About half of the children enrolled have significant disabilities.

Local celebrity servers will compete for your tips and a chance to win the “golden spatula” at Flapjacks for Families. Additionally, Frozen characters, Anna, Elsa and Olaf will be joining in the fun! All of the proceeds raised and toys collected at the event go to families served by Irene Wortham Center. The breakfast is sponsored by Cane Creek Pharmacy.

Breakfast is $10 per person or FREE with a new, unwrapped toy of the same or greater value.

Kids eat for $5.

SeeSaw: A Collaborative Show Between Roots + Wings and Open Hearts
