Celebrate Annual World Ranger Day

Join a North Carolina State Park Ranger for a guided hike along the Hickory Nut Falls trail, as they discuss the Park and the diverse ways that they protect it.

“Around the globe, park rangers are on the front line in the fight to protect our natural heritage. World Ranger Day offers a chance to support their vital work, which ranges from environmental campaigning to education.”

Live Animal Program

Following Smokey Bear’s Birthday Party that’s from 11am-1pm, a live animal program by Carolina Mountain Naturalists will be held at the amphitheater behind the Forest Discovery Center.

Annual Catawba RiverFest Celebration

Attendees will be able to demo kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards free of charge. An all-day raffle will be held with prizes including t-shirts, a 9’ kayak package and more. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the Lake James concession stand prior to the event and on site the day of the event. Visitors will also be able to participate in free educational programs throughout the day. Events will include eco-tours led by park rangers,craft tables set up for take-home kid’s crafts, live music will be provided by Slight Departure.
There will be a wide variety of organizations on site sharing fun activities and informational booths. Exhibitors include Lake James Area Wildlife and Nature Society, Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, Lake James Environmental Association, The Mountain Gateway Museum, and many more. There will be several food options on site throughout the event.

Fall Festival

Come one, come all to Fairview Elementary’s Annual Fall Festivall! Back up on the ballfields on Friday evening by popular demand, this event promises to be lots of fun for all! Featuring 7 inflatables, a dunk tank, hay ride, pony rides (NEW!), carnival games, toddler area, music, food vendors, raffle baskets and more, it is a night you won’t want to miss! Be sure to get your unlimited passes ($10 in advance, $20 day of) because all inflatables and games are included (*extra charge for dunk tank and concessions*).

11th Annual WNC Run/Walk for Autism

We have something for everyone! You can run the competitive or noncompetitive 5K or run or walk the 1K.

Sign up as a participant and even better, get your friends and family together to form a team. Proceeds from the 2016 WNC Run/Walk for Autism support the programs and services of the Autism Society of North Carolina.

In the historic Haywood County Courthouse!

Historian & Curator Alex McKay has done a fabulous job gathering memorabilia! Located on the second floor and open on Fridays from 11-4:30. It’s a lovely collection which will change frequently and it has wonderful views of Waynesville.

Items are still being borrowed for display so check your closets!

Tours are also available by appointment for groups of 5 – 9 people.

Walking tours are also available. Tours begin at the Stephens-Lee Recreation Center.

Driving Tours occur Thursday through Saturday. Driving tour covers Burton st Community, Downtown and East End Valley.  Cost for a driving tour is $30/adult and $15/youth ages 4-17( taxes and fees are not included).   Requires 5 people minimum for this tour.

Walking Tours occur Thursday through Saturday.  Walking tours Burton Street Community (West Asheville) and East End Valley Street (Downtown) We require a minimum of 4 people for these tours. Cost for a walking tours is $20/adult and $10/youth ages 4-17 (taxes and fees are not included).

44th Annual Village Art and Craft Fair sponsored by New Morning Gallery and Bellagio takes place August 6 th and 7 th 2016 on the grounds of the Cathedral of All Souls in Historic Biltmore Village. Saturday 10am to 7pm and Sunday Noon to 5pm.
