How I Became a Pirate – NC Stage Pre-Performance
Join us to celebrate NC Stage’s theatrical adaptation of Melinda Long’s How I Became a Pirage. We’re excited to hoste an afternoon of lively banter and festivities. We will be joined by guests and actors as they discuss the play and bring the page to the stage. Banjos: Africa to the New World Kick-off
Banjos — Africa to the New World
This exhibit, by Bob and Leilani Thornburg, traces the development of the banjo from its African roots to the New World. Eventually, banjos were mas-produced in the American factories. This collection of twenty three instruments, mostly reproductions, spans a period of over 300 years and illustrates much of the history of this popular instrument.
Black Owl Guitars
Musician and instrument maker David English of Black Owl Guitars will be on site to discuss the history of handmade instruments and demonstrate his own creations made from recycled materials.

Self Guiding Music Trail
Starting in the visitor center lobby and running outside for a short walk down the Mountains to Sea trail connector at the VC, the trail features a large xylophone which illustrates the different sounds you can get from various types and lengths of wood. Pick up a self guiding brochure in the lobby!

Mountain Trails Festival
Come join BCHWNC as we celebrate our beautiful mountain trails, the Centennial Birthday of our National Park System and the wonders and resources of all our Public Lands. Back Country Horsemen across the Nation work hard to ensure that trails are maintained and accessible for all user groups. Proceeds from this event will help us to buy equipment and fund projects to fulfill our mission in the Western NC mountains. We will donate a portion of all proceeds to the Nantahala Area chapter of SORBA ( Southern Off Road Bike Asc.) and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. We look forward to your help to make “Mountain Trails Festival ” a great time and huge success. Tickets will be available on line through the Eventbrite link posted below .Your ticket includes Pulled Boston Butt / BBQ Chicken (Both cooked and smoked on site), Beans, Slaw, Smoked Mac and Cheese, Banana Pudding, and Tea / Lemonade.
