We’re offering a second screening of this award-winning documentary about forest kindergarten in Switzerland. The film is surprisingly engaging, entertaining and informative, and addresses many questions and concerns that parents and educators may have about this “new” and alternative education model.
We will also be briefly discussing our new school, Asheville Forest School–a new nature-based school for ages 3 1/2 – 6 that is based on the Waldkindergarten (“forest kindergarten” in German) concept shown in the film. While mainstream American preschools are increasingly focused on academics, technology and staying indoors, we will be taking children out into the woods every day, whatever the weather, and encourage free play and interest-directed learning in the ultimate classroom, Mother Nature.

We’ll be in the Lenoir-Rhyne University boardroom on the second floor, in the same building as the Asheville Visitor Center.
Asheville Forest School is a new nature-based school for ages 3 1/2 – 6 that is based on the Waldkindergarten (“forest kindergarten” in German) concept that has been so beneficial to European children. Mainstream American preschools are increasingly focused on academics, technology and staying indoors. In contrast, we take children out into the woods every day, whatever the weather, and encourage free play and interest-directed learning in the ultimate classroom, Mother Nature.

This 3 mile hike is an easily accessible, lesser known, and quieter DuPont Forest Trail. After hiking in 1.5 miles we will stop to enjoy the views at the waterfall, maybe splash our feet in the water, and enjoy a snack/lunch before returning on the same trail.
The trail has a gradual incline on the return trip, and due to the distance, please bring a back up carrier for little walkers under 3 years old.
