Families: Make your voice heard! We invite YOU to participate in the creation of the new Asheville Art Museum.
The Museum is excited to have begun a major renovation and construction project that will transform our space and programs. Join us for a preview of the new Museum, an update on construction, and give us feedback on areas of growth, opportunity, and sustainability. We want to hear from our members as we prepare for our grand reopening in 2018!

Screening #2 of “School’s Out: Lessons from a Forest Kindergarten”
We’re offering a second screening of this award-winning documentary about forest kindergarten in Switzerland. The film is surprisingly engaging, entertaining and informative, and addresses many questions and concerns that parents and educators may have about this “new” and alternative education model.
We will also be briefly discussing our new school, Asheville Forest School–a new nature-based school for ages 3 1/2 – 6 that is based on the Waldkindergarten (“forest kindergarten” in German) concept shown in the film. While mainstream American preschools are increasingly focused on academics, technology and staying indoors, we will be taking children out into the woods every day, whatever the weather, and encourage free play and interest-directed learning in the ultimate classroom, Mother Nature.

Asheville Forest School is a new nature-based school for ages 3 1/2 – 6 that is based on the Waldkindergarten (“forest kindergarten” in German) concept that has been so beneficial to European children. Mainstream American preschools are increasingly focused on academics, technology and staying indoors. In contrast, we take children out into the woods every day, whatever the weather, and encourage free play and interest-directed learning in the ultimate classroom, Mother Nature.
“School’s Out: Lessons from a Forest Kindergarten” is a powerful and award-winning 35-minute documentary following a Waldkindergarten in Switzerland. Independence Day Cookout/Picnic
The Savory Thyme Cafe will host a special Fourth of July cookout on Monday, July 4 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Come enjoy a picnic in the Education Center Courtyard with classics such as BBQ chicken, corn on the cobb, baked beans and homemade cherry pie.
