$3 Kid/Family Friendly Classic Movies on the Big Screen

Asheville’s favorite dine-in theater, Asheville Pizza & Brewing Co., not only plays first run movies (in Theater 1), but they’ve converted their game room to a theater with a new screen and table seating (Theater 2) where they play movie classics on the big screen for just $3! There are big, very cushioned & comfortable seats at tables so families can eat while watching the movie, and ordering and drink refills are made inside the theater at the new counter they’ve added, so you don’t have to leave the theater to get that snack!

🎥 They change the $3 classics each Thursday.

🎥 There is always one kid classic at the matinees and one adult classic at 8:00pm.

🎥 The kid classic showtimes are usually the same depending on the movie’s runtime and if they have any special events happening.

Boojum Fest/Digital Scavenger Hunt

  • Music, arts, crafts, excitement! Scavenger hunt with grand prize worth $2000
  • Friday night, June 10th from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm music, food, and beverages at The Imperial, its porch, courtyard and sidewalk.

 

  • Saturday, June 11th from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm local arts and crafts, music, local stories and legends, farmer tailgate market and Boojum Scavenger Hunt. These events will be located at the Imperial Hotel, Smathers Square, Main Street and throughout the historic downtown district.

 

  • Sunday, June 12th, the event will move to Canton’s Camp Hope (possible birthplaceof the Boojum) for family oriented event

This is a celebration that historically gives respect to the news of freedom to the slaves across the United States. This type of celebration happens across the nation and the residents of Hillcrest right here in Asheville, NC host one every year. This is about freedom of mind, body, soul, knowledge, wisdom, joy and unity.

Author Event: Jay Siltzer & The Book of Malachi

Join our local WLOS news anchor Jay Siltzer as he presents The Book of Malachi: Adventures of an Ethiopian Adoptee and His TV News Dad. It’s the story of Jay’s family and the challenges they faced when Jay, his wife, and their son were all diagnosed with cancer. His wife, Kelly, passed away from leukemia just before Malachi was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It’s a story of strength, love, and survival…..and a loving piece of our community’s story not to be missed!

Geek Out! Asheville’s Fan Arts Festival

THIS YEARS THEME: Indie, Meet Tech … This year, GeekOut spotlights tech-inspired regional arts of all kinds. In keeping with the theme,  you’ll meet artists who push the boundaries of “traditional” art by blending electronic influences with their craft. Robots, steampunk, circuitry, and high-tech gadgets are fair game here!

GeekOut is an all-out celebration of artists, creators, and innovators in downtown Asheville!

On Friday August 12, GeekOut kicks off with a costumed promenade in the park and Geektastic: A Burlesque Revue.

On Saturday August 13, enjoy shows for all ages, art, games, costumes, and food at the GeekOut Day Festival. Then if you’re over 18, groove to great music at our on-site after-party.

At this 1.5 day festival, you’ll experience art as it’s created, interact with inspiring makers, and meet new friends who are passionate like you are!
