Annual Big Secret Family Festival

GATES: 11:30AM •

SHOW: 12:00PM •

This year, the lineup is a goodie! 23 Skidoo & The Secret Agency, Empire Strikes Brass, The Fritz, and The Delta House Jazz Band, as well as loads of circus performers organized by Toybox Theatre and Cherokee Storytelling by John John Grant! Expect once in a lifetime performances where each band will collaborate with every other band to create weird and wonderful new musical mutations! Fun for the whole family, and unforgettable for everybody!!

100% of the profit from this festival will be split equally between DELTA HOUSE, Asheville’s oldest afterschool program, now celebrating its 40th anniversary, and BOUNTY & SOUL, an organization providing free nutritious produce to marginalized members of the Asheville and Black Mt. communities.

How do you feed the MIND, BODY, & SOUL of kids throughout the community, and have a BLAST DOING IT? …….That’s THE BIG SECRET!!!

23 SKIDOO & THE SECRET AGENCY: The worst kept secret in town! Pulling from the GRAMMY winning catalogue of bandleader SECRET AGENT 23 SKIDOO, this crew has carved a new niche with family friendly hip-hop that doesn’t compromise on the flavor or the depth. Their high energy, ultra positive live show has rocked stages across the US, Canada, India, & Australia, and mixes deft, inspiring wordplay and storytelling with lush three part harmonies and crowd interaction, all over a bed of funk, hip-hop, soul, and pirate shanties. Performing with THE SECRET AGENCY, the breakers of the DANCING ON AIR Bboy crew bring Olympic level acrobatics that perfectly compliment the musical fireworks.

EMPIRE STRIKES BRASS: Empire Strikes Brass is a dynamic BrassFunkRock band hailing from Asheville, North Carolina. Their music resonates with a powerful message delivered through a captivating and larger-than-life sound. Fueled by a thumping rhythm section that sets the groove, the band’s rich horn arrangements, performed by a robust horn section, add an extra layer of depth to both their original compositions and compelling covers, showcasing the evolution of ESB.

THE FRITZ: The Fritz is a soul-driven psychedelic funk band hailing from Asheville, NC. The group’s aggressive approach to funk, soul, and rock creates a sound that is uniquely their own. Their high-energy, danceable songs provide a platform for each member to shine. With powerful vocals, climactic solos, and tight grooves, The Fritz has built a devoted following and is captivating audiences everywhere.

Mountain Street Dances

  • June 27th
  • July 18th
  • Aug 8th

Join the community of Downtown Waynesville for a truly authentic experience at the annual Waynesville Street Dances. Held three times each summer on Friday evenings, this late-night event has been a tradition for almost a century. Featuring the finest bluegrass musicians, bands, and clogging teams in the area, the street dances are a great way to experience the rich heritage of Appalachian culture. The dance starts with a circle, where joining hands symbolizes community, and everyone is invited to participate. The event is held on Main Street, closed off in front of the historic Haywood County Courthouse, where the asphalt is sprinkled with cornmeal to facilitate the shuffling movement of dancing feet. Bleachers are available, but feel free to bring a chair or blanket. Sponsored by the Downtown Waynesville Commission, this event is the perfect opportunity to mingle with the locals and experience the vibrant community of Downtown Waynesville.

The late evening dance has been going on for nearly a century. In the 1930’s Haywood County resident Sam Queen, known as “the dancing-est man in the land” organized the Soco Gap Dance Team, which was among the very first practiced mountain square dance and clogging demonstration teams in the country. Today his grandson, Joe Sam Queen, carries on the tradition.

Monday Mystery Movie

Monday Mystery Movie at all participating Regal theaters across the country, including our Regal Biltmore Grande & RPX theater in Biltmore Park Town Square. Be the first to see this NEW movie BEFORE its official release date for ONLY $5. They just can’t tell you the title! It’s a mystery! We’ve attended them all since their first one back in September 2022, and it’s such a neat experience. We don’t know what to expect, sometimes aren’t shown the title screen when the movie starts, and given ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER INFORMATION! They’ve been rated all the way to R+, so far (we have older teens so it’s not a problem for us), BUT this time it’s a rare PG-13 rated mystery movie! They didn’t originally tell us the rating, either, but oops!, some families brought their small kids to a not so appropriate for kids movie by surprise, so now we at least get the rating in advance. 😬

👉 Start the summer off right! There are very few surprises left in life! If you want to experience the unknown, book your tickets for Monday Mystery Movie Night at the link above.
